A printing apparatus includes: a tube configured to form a flow channel to supply a liquid to a liquid ejecting unit configured to eject the liquid; a holding unit configured to hold the tube; and a valve unit configured to move to a closed position to press and close the tube held by the holding unit with a pressing portion from an open position to open the tube held by the holding unit, and to move to the open position from the closed position. Here, the valve unit includes a pivot shaft and moves pivotally around the shaft to move to the closed position and the open position, and a direction of extension of the pivot shaft is a direction intersecting with a direction of extension of the tube held by the holding unit.

A motor control method performed by a controller includes monitoring a motor load of at least one of a plurality of motors including a first motor and a second motor driven by one common power source having a protection circuit, wherein the protection circuit is operated to shut down the power source in a case where a current value of the power source continues to exceed a threshold during a period Tg, and stopping motor drive in a case where the monitored motor load continues to exceed the threshold during a period Tn, which is shorter than the period Tg. In addition, monitoring of the motor load is skipped during acceleration operations of the first motor and the second motor when both the first motor and the second motor are driven, and then monitoring of the motor load is restarted.

A printing device that prints on media held in a tray includes a first roller section including a first conveyance roller; a second roller section including a second conveyance roller and a pinch roller; and a printing section provided between the first and the second roller sections. Printing is performed on the top surface of the media in the printing section while the tray is being conveyed by the first and the second roller sections. The tray is such that friction surfaces having a coefficient of friction that is higher than that of the other portions of the tray are formed in portions that come in contact with the first conveyance roller when the tray is taken in by the first roller section and the tip end of the tray advances to a gripping section between the second conveyance roller and the pinch roller.

A printing apparatus according to the present invention includes a feeding unit, a conveying unit, a printing unit, and a control unit. The control unit performs a successive feeding operation. An operating state of the feeding unit changes between a first operating state and a second operating state in which a feeding stop is more unstable than that in the first operating state, in a period from a start of feeding a printing medium until the printing medium reaches the conveying unit. In the successive feeding operation, a subsequent printing medium is fed without stopping until a leading end of the subsequent printing medium reaches a stoppable position. The stoppable position is arranged on an upstream side of the conveying unit. The subsequent printing medium can be stopped in the first operating state at the stoppable position.

In an inkjet printing apparatus capable of automatic duplex printing, time required to fix ink is shortened and throughput is improved without producing uneven fixing. The inkjet printing apparatus includes a printing unit that prints onto a sheet, a fixing unit that heats a sheet printed by the printing unit, a conveying unit that conveys a sheet with respect to the printing unit and the fixing unit, and a controller that controls the conveying unit such that a printing region of a sheet printed on the first side by the printing unit passes through the fixing unit, and afterwards, the conveyance direction of the sheet is reversed in order to print on the second side and the printing region once again passes through the fixing unit. The controller variably controls the conveyance speed of the sheet when the printing region once again passes through the fixing unit.

Inkjet printing apparatus

An image reading apparatus includes a drive source, a speed change mechanism provided in a transmission unit that transmits a driving force from the drive source to a scanning drive unit. The speed change mechanism is configured to change a transmission ratio of the transmission unit by selectively bringing one of first and second couplings into a connected state. The image reading apparatus further includes a selector configured to selectively bring one of the first and second couplings into the connected state, a detector configured to detect the connected state of the second coupling, and a controller configured to control a scanning position of the reading unit based on the transmission ratio changed via the second coupling after the detector detects the connected state of the second coupling after the selector changes selection from the first coupling to the second coupling.

There is provided a method of reading an image by reading reflected light from a document that is illuminated. The method includes illuminating the document with light from a light source, changing a degree of diffusion of the light applied from the light source to the document, and reading reflected light from the document. The degree of diffusion is changed in accordance with a type of the document.

A rotation of an original cover and a hinge member in a vertical setting state of an image reading apparatus is locked by a simple operation. A locking mechanism which fixes the hinge member to the image reading apparatus is provided. The original cover of an image reading apparatus for covering an original stand which is provided on the image reading apparatus and on which an original is placed is provided with a cover member for covering the original placed on the original stand, and a hinge member having one end thereof pivotally supported by the cover member and having the other end thereof mounted on and pivotally supported by the original stand.
