Disclosed is an internal-combustion engine controller capable of improving emission characteristics at a start of an internal-combustion engine. When injection during an exhaust stroke is controlled in a port-injection engine, the engine controller ECU performs the first fuel injection during tto taccording to a memory-based crank angle as illustrated in FIG.() at a fuel injection timing before determination of an actual stroke. Thus, the injected fuel has been introduced into a cylinder during the actual stroke. If fuel is not injected during tto twithin the next exhaust stroke as denoted by the solid line, this causes misfire in the cylinder, so that the engine rotation at the start cannot be smooth. Thus, the ECU clears a finished fuel injection flag (F_INJ) at an incorrect crank angle storage determination timing (t) as denoted by the dashed-dotted line, thereby capable of controlling the fuel injection.

A stop control system for an internal combustion engine, which is capable of accurately stopping a piston at a predetermined position during stoppage of the engine while preventing occurrence of untoward noise and vibration. After stopping the engine, the stop control systemfor the engineaccording to the present invention executes a first stage control (step) in which a throttle valveis controlled to a first stage control target opening degree ICMDOFPRE smaller than a second predetermined opening degree ICMDOF, in order to stop the piston at the predetermined position, before executing a second stage control (step) in which the throttle valveis controlled to the second predetermined opening degree ICMDOF. Further, the stop control systemstabilizes initial conditions at the start of the second stage control by setting a first stage control start rotational speed NEICOFPRE and a first stage control target opening degree ICMDOFPRE according to a change in a corrected target stop control start rotational speed NEICOFREFN (stepsand).

Stop control system and method for internal combustion engine

To provide a stop control system for an internal combustion engine, which is capable of accurately stopping a piston at a predetermined position while compensating for variation in the stop characteristic of the piston and aging thereof. The stop control systemfor the engineaccording the present invention controls a throttle valvetoward an open side when an engine speed NE becomes lower than a stop control start rotational speed NEIGOFTH after the engineis stopped (step), whereby a final compression stroke rotational speed NEPRSFTGT is controlled to a predetermined reference value NENPFLMTO, to thereby control the stop position of the pistonto a predetermined position. Further, the correlation between the stop control start rotational speed NEIGOFTH and the final compression stroke rotational speed NEPRSFTGT is determined (step, FIG.), and based on the determined correlation, a target stop control start rotational speed NEICOFREFX is calculate and learned (step), for use in the stop control.

A stop control system for an internal combustion engine, which controls a stop position of a piston of the engine, is provided. An valve opening amount of an intake air flow rate control valve is determined based on the detected engine rotational speed and the detected crank angle after the ignition switch is turned off, and the intake air flow rate control valve is controlled so that the valve opening amount of the intake air flow rate control valve coincides with the determined valve opening amount. For example, the valve opening amount of the intake air flow rate control valve is determined according to the crank angle at the time the engine rotational speed decreases to reach a predetermined range, and the intake air flow rate control valve is controlled to be opened. With this control, the intake air amount of the engine is increased so that the stop position of the piston coincides with the desired position.
