Systems and methods are provided for architectures for an analog feedback class D modulator that increase the power efficiency of the class D modulator. In particular, systems and methods are provided for an analog feedback class D modulator having a digital feed-forward loop. The digital feed-forward loop allows for removal of signal content from an input to an analog-to-digital converter, such that the ADC processes just noise and/or error. Using the techniques discussed herein, the loop filter is low power as it processes error content but not signal content.

Power efficiency in an analog feedback class D modulator

Systems and methods are provided for circuit configurations that maintain audio playback performance while reducing power consumption. In particular, a gain for a current analog-to-digital converter in an audio playback path is adjusted based on an amplitude of the input signal. Additionally, systems and methods are provided for transitioning between a modes of operation for large signals and mode of operation for small signals.

Power efficiency in an audio playback path

An ESD protection circuit for a switching power converter which includes a high-side switching element connected between a supply voltage and the switching node, and a low-side switching element connected between the switching node and a common node. A current conduction path couples an ESD event that occurs on the switching node to an ESD sense node, and an ESD sensing circuit coupled to the sense node generates a trigger signal when an ESD event is sensed. A first logic gate keeps the high-side switching element off when the trigger signal indicates the sensing of an ESD event, and a second logic gate causes the low-side switching element to turn on when an ESD event is sensed such that the low-side switching element provides a conductive discharge path between the switching node and common node.

ESD protection circuit for a switching power converter

An H-bridge controller and a method for controlling a common-mode voltage and/or current of an H-bridge circuit are disclosed. In one embodiment, an H-bridge controller includes a section for receiving a signal indicating at least one of a common-mode voltage or common-mode current of the H-bridge circuit, and a section for generating control signals which determine switching of the H-bridge circuit so as to control at least one of the common-mode voltage or common-mode current of the H-bridge circuit. In another embodiment, a method for controlling a common-mode voltage and/or current of an H-bridge circuit includes receiving a signal indicating at least one of a common-mode voltage or common-mode current of the H-bridge circuit; and generating control signals which determine switching of the H-bridge circuit so as to control at least one of the common-mode voltage or common-mode current of the H-bridge circuit.

Apparatus and method for controlling a common-mode voltage of switching amplifiers

A sigma-delta digital-to-analog converter comprises a current digital-to-analog converter (IDAC) stage which generates a current depending on an input digital signal. An output current-to-voltage converter converts the generated signal to a voltage on a continuous-time basis. The amplifier used in the output current-to-voltage converter is chopper-stabilized. The converter can be single bit or multi-bit. The IDAC stage can be implemented with a pair of branches, a first branch comprising a first biasing current source and a second branch comprising a second biasing current source. The biasing current sources can be chopper-stabilized by connecting the bias current sources to the output current-to-voltage converter by a set of switches. The switches connect the biasing current sources to the output current-to-voltage converter in a first configuration and a second, reversed, configuration. This modulates flicker noise contributed by the bias current sources to the chopping frequency. from where it can be removed by filtering downstream of the current-to-voltage converter.
