A cutting method that measures heights of an outer periphery of a wafer, calculates height distribution data, and then calculates change rates of the heights of the outer periphery of the wafer. Based on results of a comparison between the height change rates and a threshold, the cutting method determines whether or not foreign matter exists on a back surface of the wafer (i.e., whether or not foreign matter exists on a holding surface of a chuck table). The existence of foreign matter on the holding surface can hence be detected appropriately. If foreign matter exists on the holding surface, a worker is notified, and the cutting operation is cancelled. Therefore, the cutting method can appropriately give notification to the worker that foreign matter is stuck on the holding surface, and can also appropriately avoid performing cutting processing with foreign matter stuck on the holding surface.

Processing method

In a golf ball having a core, a cover, at least one intermediate layer therebetween, and a coating layer on the cover, the cover is formed of a transparent or translucent resin composition and the intermediate layer is formed of a resin composition. The sphere consisting of the core encased by the intermediate layer has specific lightness and chroma values in the Lab color space. The coating layer is composed of one or more layer, at least one of which contains an effect pigment having polarizing properties. Markings are provided inside of the coating layer and have a specific L value. During use, the ball retains a visual to familiarity close to that of a white ball. Up close, it is clearly discernible from a white ball; from a distance, it appears white and is highly visible.

An edge alignment method includes (a) calculating coordinates of points having a possibility of corresponding to an edge of the workpiece, (b) forming an approximate circle by using a least squares method on all the coordinates, (c) calculating deviations between the approximate circle and respective ones of all the points, and if plural ones of the points have deviations greater than or equal to a preset threshold, respectively, then determining the point, the deviation of which is greatest, to be a false detection position, and excluding from consideration candidates the point determined to be the false detection position, and (d) estimating a position of the edge of the workpiece from the coordinates of three or more of the points still remaining without exclusion, and based on the estimated position of the edge, deriving a machining area at the outer peripheral portion of the workpiece.

Edge alignment method

A golf ball is provided which suppresses twisting due to external forces while maintaining sufficient deflection at the time of impact, reduces the spin rate without lowering ball rebound, and is thus able to effectively increase the distance traveled by the ball, particularly on shots with a driver. In the golf ball, which includes a core and a cover, the core has a core body made of a first polybutadiene rubber and having a surface with a plurality of groves or holes thereon, which grooves or holes are filled with a second polybutadiene rubber of a differing composition from the first polybutadiene rubber. The polybutadiene rubber-filled groove portions or hole portions have a higher surface hardness than the core body.

An edge position detecting apparatus for detecting a position of an edge of a disk-shaped workpiece includes a chuck table having a holding surface for holding the workpiece thereon, a laser displacement gage having a laser applying unit including a light source, for applying a linear laser beam shaped into a linear shape perpendicular to a direction of travel from the light source toward the holding surface, across the edge of the workpiece, and a beam detecting unit including a plurality of photoelectric transducers arrayed at predetermined spaced intervals along a direction for detecting a reflection of the linear laser beam, a moving mechanism for moving the laser displacement gage and the chuck table relatively to each other along the longitudinal direction, and a calculating unit for calculating the position of the edge on the basis of information of a change in an amount of the detected reflection.

Edge position detecting apparatus

A cutting blade position detecting method using a cutting apparatus including a holding table that holds a workpiece, and a cutting unit in which a cutting blade for cutting the workpiece held by the holding table is mounted in a rotatable state, includes a groove forming step of causing the cutting blade to further cut into the workpiece including a first groove formed by causing the cutting blade to cut into the workpiece, to form the workpiece with a second groove of which one end portion in a width direction does not overlap with the first groove whereas another end portion in the width direction overlaps with the first groove, and a calculating step of calculating the lower end position of the cutting blade based on a length of the one end portion in the width direction of the second groove formed in the workpiece.

Cutting blade position detecting method

In a golf ball having a core, a cover and at least one intermediate layer therebetween, the cover is formed of a rubber composition which includes a diene rubber, methacrylic acid, a metal oxide and an organic peroxide. The cover has a specific Poisson's ratio, Shore D hardness and thickness. At least one intermediate layer has a specific Shore D hardness and thickness. This golf ball, even with the use of a rubber cover, compares favorably with balls having conventional resin covers, both in that it can achieve a lower spin rate on shots with a driver (W #1) and thus has an excellent flight performance and also in that it can improve controllability in the short game.

In a golf ball having a core, an intermediate layer and a cover, the core is formed primarily of a base rubber and has a diameter set in a specific range, and the intermediate layer and cover are each formed of resin materials. The core has an internal hardness such that, regarding the hardness at the core center, the hardnesses at positions located at 2 mm intervals from the core center outward up to 16 mm and the core surface hardness, the hardness differences therebetween are set within a specific range. The ball surface hardness is set so as to be higher than the surface hardness of the intermediate layer-encased sphere. This ball achieves a satisfactory distance on full shots not only with a driver, but also with a long iron or a middle iron, in addition to which it has an excellent durability to repeated impact.

Multi-piece solid golf ball

A golf ball according to the present invention includes: a module including an electronic circuit and its power source; a protective layer that surrounds an outer periphery of the module and is formed from a material having a Shore D hardness of at least 60; a core that surrounds an outer periphery of the protective layer; and a cover that surrounds an outer periphery of the core. A weight may be arranged on a surface of the protective layer. A difference between a value MOImax of the moment of inertia in a direction in which the moment of inertia of the golf ball is maximum and a value MOImin of the moment of inertia in a direction in which the moment of inertia of the golf ball is minimum is at most 1.0 g&#xb7;cm.

In a golf ball having a core, an intermediate layer and a cover, the core is formed primarily of a base rubber, has a diameter set in a specific range and has a specially designed internal hardness profile, the intermediate layer and the cover are each formed of resin materials, and the surface hardness of the ball is higher than the surface hardness of the intermediate layer-encased sphere. This ball achieves a satisfactory distance on full shots with a driver and with long and middle irons, provides a good spin performance on approach shots, and has a durability to repeated impact and a scuff resistance that are both excellent.

A dressing method of a cutting blade includes a first cutting step of causing the cutting blade to cut into a dressing board held by a holding surface of a chuck table with a cutting depth that does not surpass the length of the region of roundness in the radial direction of the cutting blade to form a cut groove in the dressing board, and a second cutting step of causing the cutting blade to further cut into the groove bottom of the cut groove formed in the first cutting step with a cutting depth that does not surpass the length of the region of roundness in the radial direction of the cutting blade to carry out cutting on the groove bottom with tracing of the cut groove.

Dressing method of cutting blade

A cut groove having a predetermined depth is formed with a cutting blade along a projected dicing line set on a workpiece. A first preliminary groove is cut in a measurement member and a relational expression with respect to a distance from the preliminary groove bottom and the width of the preliminary groove is determined. An amount of incision into the workpiece is set to be equal to or smaller than a predetermined value from a reference position and the thickness of the workpiece. A second preliminary groove is cut along the projected dicing line, and an image of the second preliminary cut groove is captured. The width of the second preliminary cut groove is measured, and the depth of the second preliminary cut groove is calculated from the width of the second preliminary groove and the relational expression.

Method of forming cut groove

A golf ball includes: a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag including an IC chip and an antenna; a protection layer surrounding the outer periphery of the RFID tag; a relaxation layer surrounding the outer periphery of the protection layer; a core surrounding the outer periphery of the relaxation layer; and a cover surrounding the outer periphery of the core. The curing temperature of the protection layer is 80&#xb0; C. or less, and the protection layer is formed with a material having a hardness of Shore D 60 or more. The relaxation layer is formed with a thermoplastic elastomer-based material having a hardness with a difference from a hardness of a surface of the core on a side contacting the relaxation layer of Shore D 20 or less. The protection layer has an outer diameter of 3 to 16 mm, the relaxation layer has an outer diameter of 21 mm or less, and the core has a thickness of 8 mm or more.

A golf ball includes: a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag including an IC chip and an antenna; a protection layer surrounding the outer periphery of the RFID tag; a relaxation layer surrounding the outer periphery of the protection layer; a core surrounding the outer periphery of the relaxation layer; and a cover surrounding the outer periphery of the core. The curing temperature of the protection layer is 60&#xb0; C. or less, and the protection layer is formed with a material having a hardness of Shore D 60 or more. The relaxation layer is formed with a thermoplastic elastomer-based material having a hardness with a difference from a hardness of a surface of the core on a side contacting the relaxation layer of Shore D 20 or less.
