Highly pure squalane in which the content of pristane is reduced to 10 wt ppm or less, can be obtained by refining the squalane of animal oil or fat origin through thin film distillation, said highly pure squalane is useful as a raw material for producing cosmetics and medical and pharmaceutical preparations and especially, it is quite effective as a lubricating agent for condoms and as a component of adjuvant composition.

The present invention provides a binder for foundry sand which comprises a hydrolyzate of a butadiene/maleic anhydride copolymer, a neutralized or a partially neutralized substance of the hydrolyzate, a modified substance prepared by modifying the hydrolyzate with a basic organic compound, or a mixture thereof.

A composition for modeling material comprising a synthetic resin, a wooden powder and an oil formulated and kneaded. The synthetic resin is a rubber-reinforced styrene resin. The oil is a hydrocarbon oil having a specified viscosity, and restriction of the content of an aromatic ring-forming carbon. The composition is formed into flat board, round rod, etc. and used as modeling material for shaping patterns or models.

In a method for producing a low molecular weight polymer or copolymer by introducing metallic sodium or an organic sodium compound as a polymerization initiator, an alkyl aryl compound as a chain transfer agent, an inert hydrocarbon as a solvent and a conjugated diolefin or both a conjugated diolefin and a vinyl compound having anionic copolymerization activity with diolefins as a monomer or monomers, into a polymerization vessel and polymerizing or copolymerizing therein successively at a temperature of 0.degree. to 100.degree. C., the improvement in the method for producing a low molecular weight polymer or copolymer having a number average molecular weight of 300 to 10,000 with good reproducibility is characterized in that 0.05 to 10 mole % per 1 mole of the said polymerization initiator, of oxygen is fed into said polymerization vessel.

Method for producing low molecular weight polymer

There is disclosed a water-soluble coating composition having excellent properties including corrosion resistance, adhesion, impact resistance and so on. The coating composition comprises an adduct of a butadiene lower polymer or copolymer and .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compound resulting from the special addition reaction, a hydrophilic solvent and a neutralizer.

A method for recovering a low molecular weight polymer containing no catalyst residue, which method comprises the steps of: polymerizing a conjugated diolefin or copolymerizing comonomers of conjugated diolefins and a vinyl compound having anionic polymerization activity in the presence of a catalyst containing an organic sodium compound and a chain transfer agent of an alkyl aryl compound; uniformly mixing the obtained polymerization mixture with an isopropyl alcohol aqueous solution; separating the thus obtained mixture into two phases of a polymer mixture containing the liquid low molecular weight polymer and an isopropyl alcohol aqueous solution containing catalyst residue; and separating the low molecular weight polymer from the polymer mixture.

Method for recovering low molecular weight polymers

A coating composition is disclosed which is curable at room temperature uniformly at and through the surface and inner portions of a film formed upon application of the composition to an article. The coating composition is characterized by the combination with a starting butadiene polymer (to which an acid is added) of a poly-(metha)-acrylate of a polyhydric alcohol, at least one of the compounds which have an allyl ether group, a tetrahydrofurfuryl group or a benzyl ether group, a radical generator and, if desired, a pigment.

When a lower polymer of butadiene or a lower copolymer of butadiene with a conjugated diolefin other than butadiene or a vinyl-substituted aromatic comonomer is reacted at 0.degree. to 200.degree. C. in the presence of a combination catalyst including an organic alkali metal compound and a specific diamino compound, the non-conjugated double bonds are effectively isomerized to the conjugated diene double bonds at a very high conversion, and a polymer having a high reactivity, which is useful as a paint vehicle, a thermosetting material, an adhesive, a rubber compounding material and an intermediate for various synthetic reactions, can be obtained.
