A device for emitting ultraviolet light includes at least one excimer lamp and a housing for the excimer lamp(s). Each excimer lamp has a discharge vessel filled with light-emitting gases, and a pair of first and second electrodes that are placed in contact with the discharge vessel and produce a dielectric barrier discharge inside the discharge vessel. The housing is made of an insulating and heat-resistant resin material. The housing is configured to house the excimer lamp(s), and has a light-emitting window that allows light with a center wavelength in a range from 200 nm to 230 nm emitted from the excimer lamp(s) to exit from the housing.

An ozone generating device including an excimer lamp having an arc tube containing a luminescent gas, a first electrode, and a second electrode. Disclosed herein an excimer discharge lamp that is capable of mitigating a stress concentration occurring due to a fixing method of an outer electrode, and achieving a desired life of lamp in an ensured manner. The excimer discharge lamp comprises: an arc tube for enclosing a luminous gas inside and having a sealing portion formed contiguous to, via a reduced diameter portion, one end of a tube shaped luminous portion; and an outer electrode of a net-like shape arranged on an outer peripheral surface of the art tube. The one end of the outer electrode being fixed via an outer electrode fixing member provided on an outer surface of the sealing portion.

Excimer discharge lamp

A high-voltage discharge lamp illumination device comprises a pulse generation part which generates pulse waves, and a power supply part which receives a DC voltage and converts the DC voltage into the AC current in correspondence to a frequency of the pulse waves so as to supply the AC current to the lamp. The pulse generation part repeats a cycle of outputting a first pulse wave over a first period, and thereafter outputting a second pulse wave having a lower frequency than the first pulse wave over a second period shorter than the first period. The pulse generation part returns to the cycle after outputting a third pulse wave having a frequency which is further lower than the second pulse wave in place of the second pulse wave, at a predetermined timing.

High-voltage discharge lamp illumination device

To maintain the shape of the projection on the electrodes of the tip end for a long time to extend the lifetime of a discharge lamp, a lighting device lighting a high pressure discharge lamp supplies alternating current such that an alternating current with a basic frequency at the time of the steady state lighting selected from a range between 60 and 1000 Hz and a low frequency of a half cycle with a frequency lower than the basic frequency are generated alternatingly. The alternating current is supplied such that the waveform with one polarity of the low frequency appears consecutively at least twice. It is also possible for the alternately generated low frequency to be lower than the basic frequency in a range from 5 to 200 Hz, and for the interval during which the basic frequency is supplied to be gradually increased and decreased at specified times.

High pressure discharge lamp lighting device with electrode temperature control

In a lighting apparatus containing a high pressure discharge lamp, an alternating current supplied to the discharge lamp at the time of steady lighting of the frequency (basic frequency) selected from a range between 60 and 1000 Hz and a low frequency having a frequency selected from a range between 5 and 200 Hz lower than the basic frequency is generated alternately. The frequency of the low frequency wave is changed in response to the change of the lighting voltage of the discharge lamp. The supply period of the basic frequency is increased and decreased little by little by every predetermined time.

An extra-high pressure mercury lamp includes an arc tube made of quartz glass. The lamp includes an arc tube portion and sealing portions connected to the arc tube portion, and encloses 0.15 mg/mmor more of mercury. A pair of electrodes are disposed face to face in the arc tube. Each electrode has a rod portion and a base end portion. The base end portion of each electrode is embedded in one of the sealing portions. One of the pair of electrodes serves as a cathode and includes a head portion, which has a larger diameter than the rod portion. Extra high pressure lamp having a novel electrode structure

Feed wires connect to the external leads and openings for the feed wires can be formed in the reflecting part with flexible tubes between them.

A light source device, including an alternating current high-pressure mercury lamp having a pair of electrodes opposite each other with a spherical light-emitting part having at least 0.15 mg/mmof mercury and halogen at 10&#x3bc;mol/mmto 10&#x3bc;mol/mm, and cylindrical hermetically sealed parts extending from both ends of the light-emitting part. External leads protrude from the ends of the light-emitting part for receiving alternating current. A reflecting mirror having a concave reflecting part surrounds the light-emitting part and a cylindrical neck part. An adhesive for securing the mercury lamp and the reflecting mirror fills a periphery of the hermetically sealed parts of the mercury lamp. The distance L(mm) from a center in between the electrodes to the adhesive is set at a value of one of 16 mm or less and 20 mm or greater.

A light source device in which the operating characteristic of the auxiliary light source can be improved, in which the starting property within the main discharge vessel is extremely advantageous and which has high reliability with respect to vibration resistance and impact strength without the disadvantage of a cost increase due to the complicated arrangement of the light source device, without reducing the proportion of good articles in the manufacture of the products, and without reducing the quality of the discharge lamp is achieved using a main discharge lamp mounted in a reflector with an auxiliary light source tightly held by the reflector or components which are adjacent to the reflector and without contact with the main discharge vessel.
