A heat-assisted magnetic recording medium includes: a substrate; an underlayer; and a magnetic layer including an alloy having an L1structure. The substrate, the underlayer, and the magnetic layer are stacked in the recited order. The underlayer includes a first underlayer. The first underlayer includes magnesium oxide and one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of vanadium oxide, zinc oxide, tin oxide, vanadium nitride, and vanadium carbide, and a total content of the one or more compounds is in a range of 45 mol % to 70 mol %.

An X-ray detector according to an embodiment includes a scintillator array and a photodiode array. In the scintillator array, a plurality of scintillators are arranged in a first direction and a second direction intersecting the first direction. The photodiode array includes photodiodes each of which is installed for a different one of the scintillators and each of which has an active area configured to convert visible light emitted by the scintillator into an electrical signal. The photodiodes are arranged in such a manner that the widths of the active areas are equal to one another in the first direction.

According to one embodiment, the X-ray computed tomography apparatus includes an X-ray tube, a rotating frame, a plurality of detector elements, a plurality of DAS elements, switching circuitry, and switching control circuitry. The X-ray tube generates X-rays. The X-ray tube is attached to the rotating frame. The plurality of detector elements detect X-rays. The plurality of DAS elements perform signal processing on output signals from the plurality of detector elements. The switching circuitry is provided between the plurality of detector elements and the plurality of DAS elements. The switching control circuitry controls the switching circuitry to switch the connections between the plurality of detector elements and the plurality of DAS elements for every rotation of the rotating frame at a predetermined angle.

An X-ray computer-tomography (CT) apparatus includes an X-ray detector, a reading unit, and a read control unit. The X-ray detector has a first region and a second region at least a part of which is aligned with the first region along a channel direction, the first region in which a plurality of first detection devices that detect X-rays are arranged, the second region in which a plurality of second detection devices having a width smaller in a slice direction than that of the first detection device are arranged. The reading unit reads a signal of the X-rays detected. The read control unit adjusts timing of reading signals from the first detection device and the second detection device according to difference between the size of the first and the second detection device in such a manner that time difference in the reading signals in the slice direction decreases.

The perpendicular magnetic layer includes two or more magnetic layers, and each layer is subjected to a crystal growth such that each crystal grain composing each magnetic layer forms a columnar crystal continuous in a thickness direction together with the crystal grains composing the orientation control layer. The orientation control layer, formed of a Co&#x2014;Cr alloy, is formed by the reactive sputtering using a mixture of a sputtering gas and nitrogen.

According to one embodiment, an X-ray computed tomography apparatus includes an X-ray tube, a detector, a first DAS, and a second DAS. The radiation detector includes a plurality of detection elements. Each detection element repeatedly detects X-rays generated by the X-ray tube and transmitted through a subject and repeatedly generates an electrical signal corresponding to the energy of the repeatedly detected X-rays. The first DAS acquires the electrical signal detected by part of the imaging region of each detection element in the integral mode. The second DAS acquires the electrical signal detected by the other part of the imaging region of each detection element in the photon count type mode.

A thermal-assist magnetic recording medium is provided which can accomplish a surface recording density of 1 Tbit/inch. The thermal-assist magnetic recording medium includes: a substrate; a plurality of underlying layers formed on the substrate; a first magnetic layer formed on the underlying layers; a coupling control layer formed on the first magnetic layer and formed of a ferromagnetic alloy; and a second magnetic layer formed on the coupling control layer. Here, Curie temperatures of the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer are higher than the Curie temperature of the coupling control layer, an anisotropy magnetic field of the first magnetic layer is greater than the anisotropy magnetic field of the second magnetic layer, and a saturation magnetic field has a minimum value at a temperature of 350&#xb0; C. or lower.
