A method for controlling the speed of rotation of a motor by changing the resistance value of a resistor circuit connected in series to the motor and having discontinuous resistance values, including the steps of applying voltage across the motor. Detecting when the applied voltage is lower than a first applied voltage and the resistance value of the resistor circuit is a first resistance value and changing the resistance value of the resistor circuit over to a second resistance value lower than the first resistance value. Detecting when the applied voltage detected is higher than a second applied voltage higher than the first applied voltage and the resistance value of the resistor value is the second resistance value and changing the resistance value of the resistor circuit over to the first resistance value. The first applied voltage and the second voltage are set for permitting the current flowing through the motor by the first applied voltage to be higher than the current flowing through the motor by the second applied voltage.

Method of controlling speed of rotation of motor

Apparatus is described for use in a vehicle having a forward motion transmission operatively connected between an engine and the output shaft connecting the drive wheel and a reverse drive mechanism arranged to be operatively connected to the output shaft for driving the vehicle in reverse. A speed change shift device is arranged to operate the forward motion transmission and the reverse drive mechanism so as to prevent simultaneous operation of the two apparatus.

An autobicycle is reversely driven by the driving force of a dedicated reverse driving motor so arranged as to be selectively drivingly connected or disconnected to the rear wheel of the vehicle. The arrangement is particularly adapted for retrofit on existing autobicycles equipped for only powered movement in the forward direction.

An improved vehicle reverse control system having a power circuit for a starter motor for starting an engine. The circuit may include a control element for controlling the starter motor, in combination with separate control elements for starting the engine and for controlling reverse operation, at least one of which may be located on or near the operator's handle grip. The circuit may also include an element which detects reverse operation and an element which suppresses the starter motor whenever the vehicle is operated in reverse. The circuit may also include an element for detecting when the engine is operating and an element for disabling reverse operation of the starter motor when the engine is operating. The circuit may also include elements for suppressing engine start and for suppressing reverse operation, disposed so that the starter motor may be controlled for only one of the two operations at a time.
