The present invention discloses 1) a catalyst composition consisting of a crosslinked organic polymer compound and a palladium catalyst, wherein said catalyst is physically carried on said crosslinked organic polymer compound, 2) a manufacturing method of the above catalyst composition 1), characterized by homogenizing a straight chain organic polymer compound, having a crosslinkable functional group, and a palladium catalyst in a solvent dissolving said straight chain organic polymer compound, then depositing a composition thus formed and subjecting the crosslinkable functional group in said deposit to a crosslinking reaction, 3) a method for substitution reaction at an allyl position, characterized by reacting an allyl carbonate and a neucleophilic agent in the presence of the above catalyst composition 1), and 4) a method for oxidizing an alcohol, characterized by subjecting the above catalyst composition 1) to reaction with an alcohol.

The present invention relates to a matrix for sustained-release preparation comprising an ester formed at a terminal carboxyl group of a straight-chain polyester which essentially consists of an .alpha.-hydroxymonocarboxylic acid. The matrix is stable to light, heat, moisture, coloring etc., and is of low toxicity. The sustained-release preparation produced by using the ester of the present invention offers stable drug release over an extended period of time, ensuring sustained stable effect. Furthermore, the sustained-release preparation does not show excess drug release just after administration.

Metal salts or substitutted or non-substituted ammonium salts of ascorbic acid derivatives can be produced in high yield by treating an acidic aqueous solution containing ascorbic acid-2-phosphate or ascorbic acid-2-sulfate with a porous adsorbent such as activated carbon, followed by treating the adsorbent with a basic aqueous solution containing e.g. a metal salt of an organic acid or substituted or non-substituted ammonium salt ion to elute the desired salt of ascorbic acid derivative.
