A control circuit for a vehicle-mounted air conditioner having plural dampers therein comprises a manual command entry unit for entering command signals to a computer unit. The computer unit includes a first computer constantly powered by a vehicle-mounted storage battery to receive a temperature resetting command signal from the entry unit and a second computer which is powered from the battery through an engine ignition key switch to receive control data from the first computer to control the air conditioner. A plurality of operating parameter sensors also supplies sensed operating parameters to the second computer to permit it to control one or more of the dampers to direct conditioned air to the vehicle compartment. A display unit receives data from the computer unit to provide visual display of the reference temperature and the operating conditions of the air conditioner.

In an electric control method for an automobile air conditioner, a digital computer is utilized to calculate a function required to direct the actual in-car temperature toward a desired value in consideration with various changes of ambient temperature and the calculation is compensated to effectively reduce a difference between the actual in-car temperature and the desired value when the rate of change of the actual in-car temperature becomes below a predetermined value.

In control of an air conditioner, the rate of change of the actual temperature of air in a compartment is detected to detect a deviation between the actual temperature of air and a desired temperature of air. An air conditioner system for automotive vehicles comprises a device for detecting the temperature of an inner part of the compartment of a vehicle which is exposed to the radiant heat of the sun, a device for detecting the temperature of another inner part of the compartment which is unexposed to the radiant heat of the sun, and a control unit whereby the difference between the temperature of the part exposed to the radiant heat of the sun and that of the part unexposed to the radiant heat of the sun is obtained and in accordance with this temperature difference and the desired preset temperature of amounts of heated and cooled air blown into the vehicle compartment are controlled so as to cause the temperature in the compartment to approach the preset value. The system further comprises a device for detecting the closed position of an on-off damper which controls the flow of air through the defroster air outlet whereby the control unit is operated in response to the closed position of the damper.
