A converting device, and recording and detecting methods using the same, wherein the converting device includes a converting layer containing a variable electroconductivity material exhibiting electronic charge conduction. The variable electroconductivity material includes: (a) an electroconductivity variation imparting agent which changes its ionic structure when exposed to one of light and heat energy, between nonionic and ionic structures, the electroconductivity variation imparting agent including at least one component selected from spiropyrane compounds, diazonium compounds, derivatives thereof, a mixture of a leuco dye and a halide compound, and an ionic dye; and (b) a charge transport substance, the electroconductivity of which varies in relation to the ionic structural change of the electroconductivity variation imparting agent, the charge transport substance including at least one component selected from an organic or inorganic charge transport material, a .pi.-electron conjugated polymer, and a charge-transfer complex compound; and a pair of electrodes formed on opposite major surfaces of said converting layer.

A variable electroconductivity material characterized by being obtained by formulating (a) an electroconductivity variation imparting agent comprising a substance which is caused by light or heat energy to undergo structural change, reversibly or irreversibly, between nonionic and ionic structures and (b) a charge transport substance the electroconductivity of which is varied by said structural change of said electroconductivity variation imparting agent, and an information recording medium obtained by the use of this material has excellent memory stability, and also a light (heat) converting device having conversion characteristics can be obtained by the use of this material.

Variable electroconductivity material

A very simple and easy method for preparing dry planographic printing plates having a high printing performance and durability in the absence of dampening water is proposed. The method comprises the steps of (a) coating one surface of substrate which is transparent to ultraviolet light with an uncured photocurable silicone, (b) bringing the thus coated surface into direct contact with a surface of a base plate to form a laminate, (c) overlaying the other surface of the substrate in direct contact with an original transparency bearing an image pattern which is opaque to ultraviolet light, (d) irradiating the laminate with ultraviolet light from above the transparency and (e) separating the substrate from the base plate to allow a portion of the photocured silicone coating to transfer to the surface of the base plate, and a portion of the uncured silicone coating to stay in situ on the surface of the substrate.

Method for the preparation of a planographic printing plate

A very simple and easy method for preparing dry planographic printing plates having a high printing performance and durability in the absence of dampening water is proposed. The method comprises the steps of (a) coating one surface of substrate which is transparent to ultraviolet light with an uncured photocurable silicone, (b) bringing the thus coated surface into direct contact with a surface of a base plate to form a laminate, (c) providing on the other surface of the substrate an image pattern made of a material which is opaque to ultraviolet light, (d) irradiating the laminate with ultraviolet light from above the image pattern and (e) separating the substrate from the base plate to allow a portion of the photocured silicone coating to transfer to the surface of the base plate, and a portion of the uncured silicone coating to stay in situ on the surface of the substrate.

A magnetic card comprises (1) a planar substrate having at least a surface layer of a thermoplastic resin, (2) a magnetic layer disposed at at least one part of a surface of the planar substrate, (3) a color layer disposed on the magnetic layer, and (4) a pattern layer disposed on the color layer. In this magnetic card, the color of the magnetic layer which does not contribute to an attractive appearance is hidden under the color layer, and, because the pattern layer is disposed on the color layer, the pattern is not restricted by the color of the magnetic layer and appears clear due to the presence of the color layer. Accordingly, this magnetic card can be produced with an improved appearance from the viewpoint of design.

Printing ink compositions which are suitable for use in the method of dry-planographic printing on a high-speed web offset press are provided wherein an ink vehicle comprises from 1 to 70% by weight of a silicone-modified phenolic resin prepared by reacting an oil-soluble solid phenolic resin with an amino group-containing organopolysiloxane. Said ink compositions are capable of producing copy sheets without the occurrence of scumming and the piling of ink throughout a long continuous operation by the said printing method.

Novel organosilicon compounds having in a molecule at least one maleimido group bonded to a silicon atom through a Si-C linkage, synthesized by reaction of a derivative of maleic anhydride with an organosilicon compound having an amino-substituted hydrocarbon group bonded to the silicon atom. The reaction proceeds in two steps, the first step being addition of the amino group to the maleic anhydride derivative to form an amide structure and the second step being dehydration of the amide structure to form a maleimido ring. The organosilicon compounds having remarkable photosensitivity can be polymerized and cured on exposure to ultraviolet light, and the cured films are insoluble in organic solvents.

Novel benzophenone derivatives represented by the general formula R.sub.m.sup.1 --C.sub.6 H.sub.5-m --CO--C.sub.6 H.sub.5-n --R.sub.n.sup.2 where R.sup.1 is a halogen atom, a monovalent C.sub.1-10 hydrocarbon, alkoxy, thioalkoxy, amino, or dialkylamino group, R.sup.2 is an unsubstituted or organosiloxy-substituted organosilyl group, and m and n are each integers from 1 to 5. The benzophenone derivatives are useful as photosensitizers for making photo-curable compositions by blending with photo polymerizable resins, especially photopolymerizable organosilicon resins. Such photo-curable organosilicon resin compositions are further useful for making dry-planographic printing plates comprising non-image areas formed from the polymerized and cured layers of the composition.

Benzophenone derivatives and their preparation and application

The planographic printing plate has ink-receptive and ink-repellent areas provided on its base, the ink-repellent areas being covered with a layer formed by polymerizing and curing a composition which comprise a photopolymerizable organopolysiloxane with maleimido groups. The photopolymerizable organopolysiloxane has easily synthesized. The ink-repellency of the cured organopolysiloxane is excellent. The planographic printing plates can be used without dampening water and have a superior press life.

A dry planographic printing ink composition which comprises a vehicle for an ink, a pigment and a solvent, characterized by using as a portion of the vehicle 1 to 40% by weight of a silicone modified alkyd resin containing 5 to 50% by weight of at least one of the organopolysiloxanes substituted by amino groups represented by the average composition formulas: ##EQU1## AND ##EQU2## WHEREIN Z stands for an amino group or mono-valent substituent having a terminal amino group, R.sup.1 stands for a di-valent hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 stands for a mono-valent hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 stands for a hydrogen atom or mono-valent hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 40 carbon atoms, R.sup.4 stands for a methyl group or phenyl group at least 90 molar % of which is the methyl group, R.sup.5 stands for a hydrogen atom or mono-valent organic group, n is 1, 2 or 3, m is 0 or 1, x + y is 6 to 200 and y/x is 1/100 to 40/100 and w is 5 to 50. The ink composition is a very favorable dry planographic printing ink composition having a practicable printing adaptability.

A dry planographic printing ink composition which comprises a vehicle for an ink, a pigment and a solvent, characterized by using as a portion of the vehicle 1 to 40% by weight of silicone modified alkyd resin containing 5 to 50% by weight of organopolysiloxanes represented by the average composition formula: ##EQU1## WHEREIN R.sup.1 stands for a mono-valent unsubstituted hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 stands for a hydrogen atom or mono-valent hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, n is an integer of 1.0 to 2.0, m is an integer of 0.1 to 2.5, but n + m is less than 4. The ink composition is a very favorable dry planographic printing ink composition having a practicable printing adaptability.
