A paper currency handling apparatus associated with the present invention has a paper currency storage unit which receives paper currencies, a feeder port which enters or dispenses paper currencies by opening or closing an inner shutter and an outer shutter, a transport path which transports the paper currencies between the feeder port and the paper currency storage unit, open/close control unit which controls open/close operations of the inner shutter and the outer shutter independently, and paper currency posture modification unit which modifies the posture of paper currencies present between the outer shutter and the inner shutter.

In a paper currency handling apparatus, a temporary housing is arranged behind a paper currency deposit and withdrawal port; a paper currency discrimination part is arranged behind the temporary housing; conveyance paths conveying a paper currency from below the paper currency let-out part to ahead of the paper currency discrimination part, conveyance paths conveying a paper currency from behind the paper currency discrimination part to the temporary housing once ascending upward, and a paper currency sorting gate going from behind the paper currency discrimination part to the conveyance path to implement sorting to conveying destinations for a first time are included, wherein the paper currency sorting gate is arranged in an upper part behind the temporary housing.

Paper currency handling apparatus

A paper-money receipt/payment machine comprises a conveyance path, on which paper sheet can be conveyed in dual directions, and a paper-money discrimination unit provided midway the conveyance path to discriminate the paper sheet. The machine further comprises a temporary holding unit for storage of rejected paper sheet to be rejected, and an exclusive storage box, separately provided from the temporary holding unit, for storage of jammed paper sheet. A bill depositing/dispensing apparatus convenient to use and capable of readily adapting itself to operations to handle many denominations and/or a large number of bills or operations to sort and handle a small number of bills is to be provided. A bill handling machine includes a bill discriminator which discriminates between genuine and counterfeit bills; a cash box including first and second bill storing boxes which store bills to be recycled, the first bill storing box for storing bills of first type, the second bill storing box for storing bills of second type; a non-genuine bill storing box which is provided outside the cash box and stores a bill that is suspected or determined to be non-genuine by the bill discriminator; a temporary stocker which temporarily stores bills prior to storing the bills in the first and second bill storing boxes or the non-genuine bill storing box; and a transport component configured to transport the bills to the temporary stocker, first and second bill storing boxes, and non-genuine bill storing box, wherein an entry to the non-genuine bill storing box is provided at a section of the transport path that is between the bill discriminator and temporary stocker.

A cash transaction machine includes a sterilizing unit for sterilizing bills by heat, a heating temperature of the sterilizing unit being detected by a sensor and maintained in a specified range, wherein a number of bills to be processed is limited because there is a possibility that if very many bills are processed by the sterilizing unit, the heat is absorbed by the bills and the heating temperature falls, and the germs are not killed effectively, wherein when the bills are not sterilized, the sterilizing unit is operated intermittently to thereby prolong its service life, and the bills are sterilized only when a specified transaction is selected, and wherein a pressure is applied to bills simultaneously with heating by the sterilizing unit to thereby remove folds and rumples of the bills.
