A laminate type battery includes a laminate battery case and an electrode assembly. The laminate battery case includes two laminate films each having a metal layer and plastic layers provided on both faces of the metal layer, and has a welded portion in which peripheral edges of the two laminate films are welded to each other. The electrode assembly is enclosed in the laminate battery case, and has a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate, and a separator disposed therebetween. An internal gas pressure sensing portion, in which the inner plastic layer of each of the laminate films is absent and the metal layers are in contact with each other so as to be in an electrically conductive state, is formed in a portion of the welded portion. A voltage detection hole, in which the outer plastic layer is absent and the metal layer is exposed, is formed in a surface of each of the two laminate films.

Laminate type battery and battery module incorporating the laminate type battery

A battery module has a plurality of prismatic batteries () stacked in a thickness direction. Two plates () are provided between each of the batteries (), and each of the batteries () is compressed by shifting the two plates () in directions away from each other. A pair of frame members () having opposing surfaces () extending along the stacking direction of the batteries () are disposed face to face so as to sandwich the batteries () in a direction perpendicular to the stacking direction of the batteries. Wedge-shaped spacers () inserted between the two plates () are provided respectively on the opposing surfaces. By narrowing the gap between the pair of frame members (), the spacers () are allowed to advance inwardly between the two plates () so that the two plates are shifted in directions away from each other, whereby the batteries are compressed.

Method for compressing individual cells in battery module

A stack type battery has positive electrode current collector tabs () overlapped with each other and welded to a positive electrode current collector terminal (), and negative electrode current collector tabs () overlapped with each other and welded to a negative electrode current collector terminal (). The positive electrode current collector tabs () existing between the positive electrode plates () and an end part () of the positive electrode current collector terminal () that is on the positive electrode plate () side are welded to each other and/or the negative electrode current collector tabs () existing between the negative electrode plates () and an end part () of the negative electrode current collector terminal () that is on a negative electrode plate () side are welded to each other.

Stack type battery

A power-generating element containing a stacked electrode assembly () and an electrolyte solution is disposed in an accommodating space of a plastic battery case (). The entirety of the battery case () is enclosed air-tightly and liquid-tightly in an outer cover made of an aluminum laminate. An opening (A) of the battery case () is sealed by sealing members () disposed and melt-bonded so as to cover an opening (A) of the battery caseand to sandwich current collectors () of the power-generating element from both sides. The outer cover is sealed at at least a location corresponding to the opening (A) of the battery case ().

Battery and battery module

A battery including an electrode unit which is an electricity generating element housed in a battery can, in which the electricity can be taken out of the can via a pair of negative and positive electrode terminals which are exposed outside the can, and one of the negative and positive electrode terminals has a coating layer formed on a surface thereof that is the same material as the material of which the other of the negative and positive electrode terminals is made.

A battery including an electrode unit housed in a battery can and which generates electricity which can be taken out of the battery via a pair of negative and positive electrode terminals, wherein a terminal assembly is installed in the battery, a current collector plate is connected to an edge of an electrode of the electrode unit for connecting the electrode unit to the terminal assembly, and one or more than one connecting piece which is protrusively formed on a surface of the current collector plate is welded and secured to a base portion of the terminal assembly.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is provided with a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte, wherein positive electrode active material is a mixture of lithium-manganese composite oxide having spinel structure represented by a general formula LiMnO(wherein a relationship 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.2 is satisfied) and lithium-transition metal composite oxide represented by the general formula LiNiCoMnO(wherein the relationships 0.5&#x3c;x+y&#x3c;1.0 and 0.1&#x3c;y&#x3c;0.6 are satisfied), and negative electrode active material is graphite coated with low crystalline carbon where whole or a part of a surface of first graphite material as a substrate is coated with second carbon material which is lower in crystallinity compared with the first graphite material.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

In a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery provided with a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution, a positive electrode active material is a mixture of lithium-manganese composite oxide and at least one of lithium-nickel composite oxide represented by a general formula LiNiM1Oand lithium-cobalt composite oxide represented by the general formula LiCoM2O, and said non-aqueous electrolyte solution contains at least a saturated cyclic carbonic acid ester and an unsaturated cyclic carbonic acid ester having double bond of carbon where content by amount of said unsaturated cyclic carbonic acid ester having double bond of carbon is in a range of 1.0&#xd7;10to 2.4&#xd7;10g per positive electrode capacity 1 mAh.

In a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery provided with a positive electrode, a negative electrode using carbon material as negative electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution, the non-aqueous electrolyte solution contains at least a saturated cyclic carbonic ester and a cyclic carbonic ester having C&#x2550;C double bond where an amount of the cyclic carbonic ester having C&#x2550;C double bond is in a range of 1.0&#xd7;10to 13.0&#xd7;10g per negative electrode capacity of 1 mAh.

A nickel-metal hydride storage battery comprising a positive electrode containing nickel hydroxide, a negative electrode containing a hydrogen absorbing alloy and an alkaline electrolyte, wherein the positive electrode contains a hydroxide and/or an oxide of an element selected from the group consisting of calcium, strontium, scandium, yttrium, lanthanoid and bismuth, and the negative electrode contains germanium.

Nickel-metal hydride storage battery

A nickel-metal hydride storage battery which includes a positive electrode containing nickel hydroxide, a negative electrode containing a hydrogen absorbing alloy and an alkaline electrolyte, wherein the positive electrode contains a hydroxide and/or an oxide of an element selected from the group consisting of calcium, strontium, scandium, yttrium, lanthanoid and bismuth, and the negative electrode contains a hydroxide and/or an oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of scandium, yttrium and lanthanoid.

For us in nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cells, the invention provides an electrode which comprises a first carbon material serving as a core material, and a second carbon material coating the first carbon material over the surface thereof and containing boron. When used as an active substance for negative electrode to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell, the electrode diminishes the reduction of the cell capacity that would result if the cell is allowed to store, giving improved storage characteristics to the cell.

Carbon materials, electrodes and nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cells

A lithium secondary battery according to the present invention includes a positive electrode in which an aluminum foil containing manganese is used as a current collector, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution formed by dissolving lithium salt in a non-aqueous solvent wherein divalent manganese salt is added to said non-aqueous electrolyte solution.

Lithium secondary battery

The lithium secondary battery of this invention uses a nonaqueous electrolyte including lithium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate as a part or whole of an electrolytic salt. As a result, the lithium secondary battery exhibits better charge-discharge cycle performance than a lithium secondary battery using a conventional lithium salt as the electrolytic salt.
