A device for sequentially transferring cigarettes or cigarette pairs from a rectilinear, preferably horizontal path, so-called 'longitudinal', along which the cigarettes are moved forward in a file in which they are axially aligned, to a rotary fluted drum with its axis of rotation being parallel to the rectilinear horizontal path, the transferred cigarettes being successively deposited, parallelly arranged side by side, onto the drum in a row, which is transverse with respect to the cigarette file moving along the longitudinal path. The transferring device includes a rotary drum positively driven at a constant speed, onto which there is mounted a number of swinging arms star-like arranged at an equal distance therebetween and carrying each one a suction head for picking up and transferring the cigarettes. The drum has a number of correlated, positively reciprocating separate devices driving each the respective one of the swinging arms, as well as an equal number of like epicyclic trains, regularly arranged in a circle, which are operatively associated with the drum itself so as to evenly entrain every one of the suction heads into a motion of translation along the circular path as established by the drum for the succession of suction heads.

Transferring device for rod-like articles

A device for wrapping a glued junction band (T) around an axially arranged pair of cigarettes (S) with a double filter interposed therebetween, wherein the cigarettes and filters are aligned by terns on a rotary drum (1) comprising rolling sectors defined between peripheral gabled ridges (2) on the periphery of the drum. In each of said sectors, the axial rolling movement of a tern comprising the cigarettes and double filter, which promotes the wrapping of the junction band (T) therearound, is caused by a relative sliding movement between the periphery of the drum (1) and an endless chain-track (3), the articulated links (11) of which comprise, each, an arcuated rolling face or sole (111) and are positively guided, perfectly concentrically with the drum (1), along a pre-determined angle thereof, depending upon the length of the band and upon the rate of the relative movement, the radial constant spacing between the soles (111) and the opposite rolling sectors of the drum (1) being such as to engage laterally, by a gentle pressure, the terns to be wrapped in the respective band (T). Each of said rolling faces or soles (111) of the chain-track links (11) has an inlet sharp corner (211), on the upstream side of the rolling sole, with respect to the direction of the peripheral movement of the drum (1), so as to form an abutment shoulder to align the terns of cigarettes (S) and interposed double filter, if necessary and before they begin rolling, and to make sure that the rolling movement of the terns begins with each tern in perfect alignment.

Device for wrapping a junction band around a pair of cigarettes

The device for feeding filter plugs to a demand drum comprises, in combination, a gravity-feed hopper containing a supply of multiple length filter rods, the hopper being closed, in correspondence of its bottom end, by a rotating fluted drum wherein each flute of the drum is capable of housing a filter rod. The filter rods, thus removed from the hopper, are cut into three filter plugs, which are delivered, axially aligned, onto a horizontal conveyor belt subdivided into three tracks. As a continuation of the conveyor belt there is provided a horizontal fixed sliding surface onto which the articles slide in three rows, each leading article of the three rows being pushed by the subsequent ones, until the leading article reaches an abutment member, where it is firmly positioned. Also the sliding surface is subdivided into three tracks. In correspondence of the abutment member there is arranged a collecting and offsetting drum, which presents angularly spaced pick-up elements, and is subdivided into three sections (one for each track of the sliding surface), each section being angularly offset with respect to the adjacent one. In this manner, the filter plugs are individually and sequentially collected by the collecting drum and are transferred, the one after the other, onto a demand drum.

Device for feeding rod-like articles

The device for the high speed feeding of cigarette filter rods from a magazine, through a vertical chute, to a rotary pick-up drum arranged at the bottom end of the vertical chute, comprises an endless suction belt which defines one side wall of the vertical chute and an adjoining portion of the bottom wall of the magazine. In this manner, the filter rods are positively pushed downwardly through the chute.

Device for the high speed feeding of rod-like articles

In a cigarette maker, improved means for condensing a shower of cut tobacco and for transferring the condensed cut tobacco on to a moving suction tape to form a tobacco rod or braid without sudden and severe changes in speed and direction when the cut tobacco is being transferred on to the tape.
