A technique for performing time synchronization between a master device and a slave device is disclosed. A method implementation of the technique is performed by the master device and comprises transmitting, using optical wireless signals, a timestamp representative of a clock time of the master device to the slave device, wherein the timestamp is encoded using a color-based optical coding scheme and is to be used by the slave device to set a clock time of the slave device in accordance with the timestamp to thereby synchronize the clock time of the slave device with the clock time of the master device.

Technique for performing time synchronization

Transmission of one or more packets in a communication environment. Each packet includes one or more channel measurement fields, and the one or more packets together comprising at least first and second channel measurement fields. A first transmitter configuration for the first channel measurement field and a second transmitter configuration for the second channel measurement field are selected. The first and second transmitter configurations include pseudo-randomly different phase and/or amplitude shifts for the channel measurement fields. A method is also disclosed for a receiver configured to perform measurements on one or more packets in a communication environment. The first transmitter configuration for the first channel measurement field and the second transmitter configuration for the second channel measurement field are handshaked with a transmitter of the one or more packets, the one or more packets are received, and measurements performed on the received packets for wireless sensing and/or wireless positioning.

Security in relation to a maliciously controlled receiver

A position of a wireless device () is determined based on an optical communication signal transmitted between the wireless device () and one or more access points () of the wireless communication network. The determined position is used for controlling beamforming processing of radio communication signals transmitted between the wireless device () and one or more second access points () of the wireless communication network.

Light-communication based control of radio transmissions

Methods, apparatus and non-transitory machine-readable mediums are provided for wireless access in communications networks comprising radio access network nodes and wireless light communication network nodes. In one embodiment, a method is performed by a radio access network node for selecting a transmit or receive beam for communication with a wireless device in a communication network. The radio access network node comprises a plurality of antenna elements configurable to provide a plurality of transmit or receive beams. The communication network further comprises one or more wireless light communication, LC, network nodes. The method comprises: obtaining information identifying a wireless LC network node to which the wireless device is connected; based on the identified wireless LC network node, selecting a subset of the plurality of transmit or receive beams; and initiating a beam-sweeping procedure using the subset of transmit or receive beams to select a transmit or receive beam for communication with the wireless device.

Methods, apparatus and machine-readable mediums related to wireless access in communication networks

Methods, apparatus and non-transitory machine-readable mediums are provided for wireless communication in communication networks enabled for wireless light communication. In one embodiment, a method is performed in a node of a communication network. The method enables data communication to be established between a first wireless device and the communication network upon a wireless Light Communication (LC) link between the first wireless device and an LC-enabled Access Point (AP) of the communication network becoming unavailable. The method comprises: identifying a second wireless device for relaying data between the first wireless device and the communication network via a first communication link between the first wireless device and the second wireless device and a second communication link between the second wireless device and an AP of the communication network associated with the second wireless device.

Methods, apparatus and machine-readable mediums related to wireless communication in communication networks

Methods, apparatus and non-transitory machine-readable mediums are provided for wireless communication in communication networks comprising a wireless device, a radio access network node and a wireless light communication network node. In one embodiment, a method is performed by a node () of a wireless communication network (), the wireless communication network comprising a wireless device (), a radio access network node () and one or more wireless light communication (LC) network nodes (). At least one of the wireless device and the radio access network node comprise a plurality of antenna elements configurable to provide a transmit or receive beam () for communication with the other of the wireless device and the radio access network node. The method comprises obtaining () an indication of a wireless LC network node with which the wireless device has established a wireless LC connection; obtaining () one or more signal metrics for one or more transmit or receive beams which are directed towards a coverage area of the indicated wireless LC network node, or which are directed to receive transmissions from the coverage area of the indicated wireless LC network node; and determining whether or not a transmit or receive beam of the one or more transmit or receive beams corresponds to a line-of-sight (LoS) between the radio access network node and the wireless device based on a comparison () between the signal metric for the transmit or receive beam and a first threshold.

A method of a communication device configured with two or more multi-user coordination modes for communication with a plurality of users is disclosed. The method comprises determining an available spatial selectivity for the plurality of users, and selecting one of the two or more multi-user coordination modes based on the determined available spatial selectivity and a number of users of the plurality. Corresponding apparatus, communication receiver and computer program product are also disclosed.

In one example aspect, a method of determining a channel estimate of an optical communications channel between at least one optical transmitting component and at least one optical receiving component is provided, the method comprising determining a location of at least one optical transmitting component, determining an orientation of the at least one optical transmitting component, determining a transmission characteristic of the at least one optical transmitting component, determining a location of at least one optical receiving component, determining an orientation of the at least one optical receiving component, determining a reception characteristic of the at least one optical receiving component, and calculating the channel estimate of the optical communications channel based on the location of the at least one optical transmitting component, the orientation of the at least one optical transmitting component, the transmission characteristic of the at least one optical transmitting component, the location of the at least one optical receiving component, the orientation of the at least one optical receiving component and the reception characteristic of at least one optical receiving component.

Determining a channel estimate

A method is disclosed for a wireless communication device (WCD) configured to receive, using a combiner selected from a plurality of combiners available at the WCD, downlink transmissions from a wireless communication node (WCN) via a downlink transmission beam selected from a plurality of downlink transmission beams available at the WCN. The method comprises, for each of the plurality of combiners, estimating an interference level experienced at the WCD. The method also comprises transmitting a measurement signal on each of a plurality of uplink transmission beams for selection of the downlink transmission beam by the WCN. Each of the plurality of uplink transmission beams corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of combiners available at the WCD. A signal strength of the measurement signal on an uplink transmission beam is responsive to the estimated interference level for the corresponding combiner. Corresponding arrangement, WCD and computer program product are also disclosed.
