A wireless device capable of matching a user with content based on the user's proximity to other users, by searching for a match between profiles of wireless devices within a wireless coverage area. Wireless devices broadcast profiles within a wireless coverage area. Other wireless devices within the wireless coverage area receive the broadcasted profiles, determine a match between the received profile and a profile stored on the wireless device, and display a match indicator if a match is determined. In this manner, a user having a wireless device may be matched with content based on the user's proximity to other users.

Method and apparatus to buy and sell items via a local area network

A method of mobile gaming is disclosed. The method includes configuring a mobile device to include a plurality of gaming parameters representative of a game to be played, communicating a gaming request via a wireless network, wherein the gaming request includes a game identifier. The method further includes detecting a gaming request response, wherein the gaming request response is associated with the game identifier, exchanging at least one of the plurality of gaming parameters, and updating at least one of the plurality of gaming parameters on the mobile device to reflect the exchanged at least one of the plurality of gaming parameters.

System and method for gaming in an ad-hoc network

A handheld device including a memory, a wireless interface, and a non-wireless interface. The memory is configured to store authentication information in the handheld device. The authentication information identifies a user of the handheld device. The wireless interface is configured to interface the handheld device to a wireless network, and to permit the user of the handheld device to communicate with the wireless network based on the authentication information stored in the memory of the handheld device. The non-wireless interface is configured to interface the handheld device to a remote device including an interface compatible with the non-wireless interface of the handheld device, and to permit the remote device to communicate with the wireless network via the wireless interface of the handheld device.

Personal lifestyle device

A first device is configured to operate as a media transmitter or a media receiver. The first device includes a memory configured to store a playlist of media files accessible to the first device. An output circuit is configured to receive the playlist from one or more second devices. Responsive to a first media file in the playlist being stored in the first device, the first device is configured to operate as a media transmitter and control transmitting of the first media file from the first device to the one or more second devices. Responsive to the first media file not being stored in the first device, the first device is configured to transfer control of transmitting from the first device to a selected one of the second devices, and operate as a media receiver to receive the first media file from the selected one of the second devices.

File sharing

In at least one aspect, a system includes a wireless client and a server. The wireless client generates a congestion quality metric based on a number of packet transmission retries and a received signal strength. The server generates configuration data for configuring one or more transmission parameters of the wireless client based on the congestion quality metric, and the wireless client configures the one or more transmission parameters according to the configuration data.

A handheld device including a communication module, a memory, and a search engine. The communication module is configured to, in response to the handheld device being located in a first geographic region, (i) establish communication with a first service provider located in the first geographic region, and (ii) order a service from the first service provider. The memory is configured to store data relating to the order. The search engine is configured to, in response to the handheld device being located in a second geographic region, based on the data relating to the order stored in the memory, search for a second service provider in the second geographic region offering a particular service, where the particular service offered by the second service provide is similar to the service provided by the first service provider.

A first device having a corresponding method and computer program comprises a storage device to store a first media file of data; a memory to store a playlist comprising a first pointer to the first media file of the first data, and at least one second pointer to at least one second media file of second data stored on one or more second devices; and an output circuit to transmit the playlist and portions of the first media file of the first data.

A method and apparatus for advertising a service on a wireless device. The method includes: storing authentication information in the wireless device; using the authentication information to establish communication between the wireless device and a service provider; and subsequent to the communication being established between the wireless device and the service provider, advertising, on the wireless device, context-specific information about a service associated with the service provider based on at least one of (i) an ambient temperature, (ii) a body temperature of a user of the wireless device, and (iii) a heart rate of the user.

Wi-Fi based geo-location connectivity

Methods, apparatus, and computer programs for configuring one or more transmission parameters of a wireless client in a wireless local area network (WLAN) are provided. In one implementation, the methods include receiving capability information from a wireless client, generating a configuration table including at least one selectable configuration option corresponding to the capability information of the wireless client, receiving user input selecting a configuration option within the configuration table, and generating and sending a configuration packet to the wireless client. The configuration packet contains configuration data for configuring one or more transmission parameters of the wireless client based on the selected configuration option.

Method and apparatus for providing quality of service (QoS) in a wireless local area network

A wireless device including memory and a control module. The memory is configured to store authentication information in the wireless device. The authentication information is used to authorize communication between the wireless device and a service provider. The control module is configured to establish communication between the wireless device and the service provider using the authentication information. The control module is further configured to transmit an order for a service from the wireless device to the service provider based on at least one of (i) an ambient temperature, (ii) a body temperature of a user of the wireless device, and (iii) a heart rate of the user.

A personal lifestyle device (PLD) includes a communication module, a memory device, and a control module. The communication module communicates with a wireless network. The memory device stores authentication information that authorizes communication between the PLD and at least one of the wireless network and a lifestyle service provider, and a profile comprising a lifestyle service ordered from the lifestyle service provider using the PLD. The control module communicates with the communication module and the memory device, automatically establishes communication between the PLD and at least one of the wireless network and the lifestyle service provider using the authentication information, automatically receives a unicast for the lifestyle service from the lifestyle service provider, wherein the unicast is selectively based on the profile, and selectively transmits an order for the lifestyle service to the lifestyle service provider.
