On the basis of user input a set of contour points of a 3D object is detected in a number of 2D slice images representing the 3D object. Next a 2D object is segmented in each of the slice images by the set of contour points so as to obtain segmentation masks. Finally, by interpolation between computed segmentation masks, the 3D object is segmented.

Method of segmenting a 3D object in a medical radiation image

A short axis in a 3 dimensional image of a lesion is determined starting from voxels defining the long axis and voxels in the plane of the long axis. Voxels within the plane of the long axis are projected perpendicularly onto the long axis and receive an identifier indicative of the region on the long axis onto which they are projected. Distances between points (projected sub-voxels) in pairs of points within the same range and within adjacent ranges are evaluated in order to determine the longest distance.

Vessel segmentation method

Volume data representing a radiation image of an object are subjected to a coarse filtering process to obtain a first classification including support type and non-support type components. An iteration of low threshold filtering steps and successive extraction and classification of connected components is performed and used to rectify the result of the coarse filtering process. A further filtering is based on the location of the connected components in the volume.
