Aspects of the present invention relate to a computer-implemented method for predicting energy production losses associated with high wind hysteresis control of a wind turbine generator. The method comprises: determining a distribution of wind speeds; determining a high wind hysteresis band that comprises wind speed values between an upper threshold and a lower threshold; and predicting energy production loss due to the high wind hysteresis control. The prediction includes: determining a high wind factor corresponding to a probability that the wind speeds in the hysteresis band occur when the generator is shut off by the high wind hysteresis control, determining, based on the distribution and power data, an energy value associated with the wind speeds falling within the hysteresis band over a predetermined time period; and determining the energy production loss by applying the high wind factor to the determined energy value.

The invention relates to a method for controlling a wind turbine system, more particular for a controlled sliding strategy to lower loads on the yaw system by controlling mechanical brakes and motor brakes in the yaw drive actuators. When the yaw system being in the non-yawing operational state, and the mechanical brake(s) being in an engaged state, and the yaw controller determines or receives a signal indicative of a yaw moment, and if the signal indicative of a yaw moment is above a signal threshold, then the yaw controller sends a braking signal to the yaw drive actuators to enter the motors into the brake state to apply a braking torque.

Method for controlling a wind turbine system in relation to braking of the yaw system

Techniques for determining the presence of ice at a wind farm with a number of wind turbines. The controller receives a current ambient temperature of the wind farm. The controller also receives a measured current wind speed from wind speed sensors of the wind turbines. The controller also receives an estimated current wind speed of each of the wind turbines that is based on measured performance parameters of the associated wind turbine. The controller determines a current wind speed difference between the measured current wind speed and the estimated current wind speed for each of the wind turbines, and determines a current delta distribution based on the current wind speed differences. The controller also determines whether an ice event has occurred, the determination being in dependence on the current ambient temperature and in dependence on the current delta distribution, and then outputs an outcome of the ice event determination.

Controller for detecting an ice event at a wind farm

A method of estimating a temperature of a component of a wind turbine is provided, comprising, during a calibration period, receiving measurements of the temperature of the component and of one or more corresponding operational parameter; and calculating, using the measurements coefficients of a model of the temperature of the component. The model relates temperature at a current time to a temperature a preceding time, T. The model is segregated into separate bins based on wind speed or power generated by the wind turbine. The method further comprises using the model to estimate a temperature of the wind turbine.

Temperature estimation in a wind turbine

A method of estimating a parameter relating to an upgrade of a wind turbine software includes toggling the wind turbine alternatingly between two modes, where the upgrade is implemented in one but not the other. Data is collected during toggling and divided into pairs of data parts, one from each mode. The data from the two modes is ordered separately and a quantile-to-quantile comparison is made.
