A control system for an autonomous vehicle is configured to pick up a passenger at a pickup location. The autonomous vehicle includes a self-driving system and one or more computing devices in communication with the self-driving system. The one or more computing devices are configured to receive a trip request including a pickup location and a destination location, the trip request being associated with a client device; cause the self-driving system to navigate the autonomous vehicle to the pickup location; send a prompt to the client device to collect semantic information; determine a specified location based on the semantic information received in response to the prompt; identify one or more semantic markers for the specified location from the semantic information; and send a message to the client device identifying the specified location using the one or more semantic markers.

Semantic identification of pickup locations

Implementing methods to provide a shortened textual summary that includes status information that is most pertinent to the user for a plurality of connected smart devices. The method includes determining a list of current statuses for a plurality of enabled smart devices and filtering the list to remove statuses that may not be of interest to the user. The filtering of the list is based on a current context of the requesting user and one or more previous contexts of the user. The resulting filtered statuses are then converted to textual snippets, summarized, and provided to the user via one or more output devices.

Summarily conveying smart appliance statuses

Implementing methods to provide a shortened textual summary that includes status information that is most pertinent to the user for a plurality of connected smart appliances. The method includes determining a list of current statuses for a plurality of enabled smart appliances and filtering the list to remove statuses that may not be of interest to the user. The filtering of the list is based on a current context of the requesting user and one or more previous contexts of the user. The resulting filtered statuses are then converted to textual snippets, summarized, and provided to the user via one or more output devices.

In one aspect of the disclosure, a user may manipulate an electronic map so as to personalize the data contained therein. In personalizing the map, the user may alter the map as if it were a document. In particular, the user may alter the map's content and appearance using various operations such as select, copy, cut, paste, insert, find, and replace.
