Disclosed is a method and apparatus for exploiting Radio Access Technology (RAT) system information blocks for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning. The method may include processing, by a mobile device with carrier aggregation, a voice call via a first RAT, the processing of the voice call causing second RAT capabilities of the mobile device to go out of service. The method may also include accessing a communications network using the second RAT with an available receiver of the mobile device during the voice call via the first RAT. The method may also include obtaining, with the available receiver, timing information from one or more broadcast system information blocks of the second RAT, and determining a time based, at least in part, on the obtained timing information.

Method and apparatus for exploiting radio access technology system information blocks for time transfer based positioning

Techniques are provided which may be implemented using various methods and/or apparatuses for locating a User Equipment (UE) using one or more proximity devices (PDs) nearby to the UE. One of the provided exemplary techniques includes initiating, by the UE, a request for a location of the UE; sending, by the UE to a location server, a first message comprising a first information for at least one PD in communication with the UE; receiving, by the UE from the location server, a second message comprising a second information for the at least one PD; sending, by the UE to the at least one PD, the second information; receiving, by the UE from the at least one PD, a third information; and obtaining, by the UE, the location of the UE based on the third information.

Systems and methods for position estimation using proximity devices

A method of operating a user equipment includes receiving, from a location server, first information about a first plurality of positioning signals expected to be transmitted by a first set of base stations; receiving, from a tile information server, second information about a second plurality of positioning signals expected to be transmitted by a second set of base stations, the second set of base stations including at least one additional base station not included in the first set of base stations; measuring a third plurality of positioning signals received from a combination of a first subset of the first set of base stations and a second subset of the second set of base stations, the third plurality of positioning signals including an additional positioning signal transmitted by the at least one additional base station; and sending measurement results for the third plurality of positioning signals to the location server.

Measuring positioning signals based on assistance data

Disclosed is a method and apparatus for performing a positioning process utilizing wireless communication network reference signals. The method may include processing, by a mobile device with carrier aggregation, a voice call via a first Radio Access Technology (RAT), the processing of the call causing second RAT capabilities of the mobile device to go out of service. The method may also include obtaining assistance data that includes information for capturing reference signals of a wireless communications network suitable for performing a positioning process with the mobile device during the voice call over the first RAT. Furthermore, based on the obtained assistance data, the method may include searching for the reference signals using an available receiver of the mobile device to access the wireless communications network. The method may also include providing signal measurements generated from captured reference signals to a position determining entity.
