Methods, systems, and apparatuses for a high availability (HA) storage cluster comprising a switch, a set of storage resources, and a set of nodes. Each node includes an HA module. The HA module maintains a real storage object representing a storage resource that provides an interface for accessing the storage resource. The HA module maintains a ghost storage object corresponding to the real storage object. The ghost storage object is configured to return an error in response to a call to the interface when the command is an I/O command and return a valid path when the command is a discovery command, connect command, or namespace ID command. When the node owns the storage resource, the interface of the real storage object is called to execute the command. Otherwise, the interface of the ghost storage object is called to respond to the command.

The disclosure provides a very flexible mechanism for a storage controller to create RAID stripes and to re-create corrupted stripes when necessary using the erasure coding scheme. Typically, this is known as a RAID 6 implementation/feature. Fixed CPU affinity is used for any piece of data that may be modified. Instead of blocking CPUs that must access or modify a piece of data, the request is efficiently moved to the CPU that owns that data. In this manner the system is completely asynchronous, efficient, and scalable.

Exemplary methods are provided for storing data in a flash storage device to facilitate subsequent detection of tampering, comprising receiving a plaintext; reading first metadata associated with a device sector; encrypting the plaintext based on the first metadata to generate a cipher text and first authentication data; storing the cipher text in the sector; and storing the first authentication data as second metadata associated with the sector. Exemplary methods are also provided for detecting tampering with data stored in a flash storage device, comprising determining a physical location in a device sector; reading cipher text from the physical location; reading first authentication data and maintenance metadata associated with the sector; decrypting the cipher text based on a user key and the maintenance metadata to generate second authentication data; and determining the occurrence of tampering based on the first and second authentication data. A flash memory system comprises a logic block interface operable to receive a write command from a host computer, the write command specifying data and a write destination address in a flash memory device, the flash memory device operable to store data at a complementary address corresponding to the specified write destination address. The system further comprises a journal communicatively coupled to the flash memory device and the logic block interface operable to temporarily store data from the complementary address of the flash memory device, and to provide the stored data in the journal to be restored to the flash memory device at the complementary address in the event of an error occurring while executing the write command.
