The system and method of the invention pertains to an axial flux stator is implemented to replace the drive-end magnets and the drive motor. The axial flux stator comprises a control circuit to control the voltage and current provided to the stator, to measure the torque and speed of rotation, and to measure the magnetic flux and magnetic flux density produced by the axial flux stator and impeller magnets, individually or in combination. The axial flux stator comprises a plurality of current carrying elements to produce magnetic flux in an axial direction and drive the impeller.

Magnetic mixers

A portable neutron generator is provided that does not utilize liquid cooling. The portable neutron generator includes a vacuum chamber housing defining a vacuum chamber and an ion beam inlet. The portable neutron generator also includes a rotating target positioned within the vacuum chamber. The ion beam inlet is oriented to receive ions such that the ions impinge upon the rotating target to cause neutrons to be emitted. The rotating target comprises a copper alloy. The portable neutron generator also includes a motor core positioned within the vacuum chamber and coupled to the rotating target. A motor stator is electromagnetically coupled with the motor core. The motor core is configured to rotate the rotating target at greater than 200 Hz during operation.

Embodiments of the method disclosed regard use of a torque sensor (e.g., transducer) and using the measured torque to detect the different fluid and mixing properties, conditions, and abnormalities in a mixing process. The torque produced in the mixing process relates to different fluid properties such as viscosity and density. It also relates to different mixing conditions such as presence of obstacles and changes or issues with gas sparging. Moreover, torque measurements enable determination of power transmitted to fluid by actual measurement, in contrast to using solely empirical impeller power number and speed, and allowing for actual mass transfer determination (i.e., gas transfer calculations).

Axial flux stator

The system and method of the invention pertains to use of a back iron on one or both ends of the impeller to increase the magnetic field density, and thus strengthen the magnetic coupling. In addition, pie-shaped (i.e. wedge) magnets, or variations thereof, increase the utilization volume and hence provide higher torque to allow the use of less expensive material (e.g. ferrites). In another embodiment, the rotor side is constructed with a Halbach array which increases the torque without the need to add a back iron piece. In another embodiment, an axial flux stator is implemented to replace the drive-end magnets and the drive motor.

Magnetic drive for bioreactor

A system and method for monitoring a subject are presented. The system includes a sensing device including at least one magnetic source to generate a magnetic field and an array of magnetic sensors disposed within the magnetic field. The sensor array obtains a plurality of magnetic field measurements at a plurality of locations along a vessel carrying a fluid including one or more magnetic particles. Further, the system includes a processing subsystem communicatively coupled to the sensing device, where the processing subsystem determines variations in the measurements caused by magnetization-relaxation of the magnetic particles based on a coupled model that defines behavior of the fluid in the varying magnetic field based on principles of magnetization-relaxation, bulk motion of the magnetic particles towards a determined gradient of the magnetic field, magnetostatics, and conservation of momentum. The processing subsystem estimates values of one or more desired parameters based on the determined variations.

Systems and methods for improved physiological monitoring

A medium voltage direct current (MVDC) collector system for renewable power generation facilities includes at least one renewable energy generation device. The MVDC collector system also includes at least one direct current (DC)-to-DC (DC/DC) power converter coupled to the at least one renewable energy generation device. The at least one DC/DC power converter is configured to shift a switching operation of the DC/DC power converter between full-wave conversion and half-wave conversion. The MVDC collector system further includes at least one controller coupled to the at least one DC/DC power converter. The at least one controller is configured to regulate shifting the switching operation of the at least one DC/DC power converter between full-wave conversion and half-wave conversion.

Power conversion system and method of operating the same

An electrical machine is provided. The electrical machine includes a stator, a rotor, and a plurality of switches. The stator includes main windings and auxiliary windings. The rotor is couplable to a prime mover configured to turn the rotor relative to the stator to generate at least six phases of alternating current (AC) power at the main windings. The plurality of switches is respectively coupled between the auxiliary windings and groups of the main windings. The plurality of switches is configured to convert the at least six phases to three phases when the plurality of switches is closed.

Multiphase electrical machine and method of use

Various embodiments of a circuit breaker are described where a movable bridge connector is employed as part of the conductive path when the circuit breaker is in a closed configuration. When the circuit is opened, the connector is displaced from the two fixed contacts otherwise bridged by the connector. In one such embodiment, the circuit breaker utilizes the electromagnetic forces generated in response to the opening event to break the circuit.
