Systems and methods for improved data routing in network topologies. A method includes generating a configuration template for a network topology based on a topology descriptor file, wherein the network topology comprises a plurality of nodes, and wherein the topology descriptor file comprises a plurality of unique node tag identifiers that are each assigned to a node of the plurality of nodes within the network topology. The method includes resolving each of the plurality of unique node tag identifiers based on the plurality of nodes within the network topology and generating a network configuration for the network topology.

Automated scaling of network topologies using unique identifiers

In some examples, a method includes receiving, by an egress network device for a network, messages from each of a plurality of ingress network devices for the network, wherein each of the messages specifies a multicast source, a multicast group, and an upstream multicast hop weight value for multicast traffic for the multicast source and the multicast group; selecting, by the egress network device and based on the upstream multicast hop weight values specified by the received messages, one of the plurality of ingress network devices to which to send a multicast join message of a plurality of multicast join messages for the multicast source and multicast group; and sending, by the egress network device, the multicast join message to the selected one of the plurality of ingress network devices.

In this disclosure, in a network comprising a plurality of network devices, a network device includes processing circuitry configured to: receive packet data corresponding to a network flow originating at a first device, the packet data destined to a second device; generate an entropy label to add to a label stack of the packet data, wherein the entropy label is generated from one or more attributes corresponding to the network flow that originated at the first device and is destined to the second device; generate a flow record including the entropy label, wherein the entropy label identifies the network flow amongst a plurality of network flows in the network; and send, to a controller of the network, the flow record, wherein the controller identifies the flow record based on the entropy label corresponding to the network flow originating at the first device and is destined to the second device.

End-to-end flow monitoring in a computer network

In some examples, a network device may determine whether a first egress network device is segment routing (SR) aware. Based on the first egress network device being SR aware, the network device may initiate establishment of an SR tunnel toward the first egress network device. The network device may forward multicast traffic on the SR tunnel. The network device may also determine whether a second egress network device is SR aware. Based on the second egress network device not being segment routing aware, the network device may initiate establishment of a non-SR tunnel toward the second egress network device. The network device may forward multicast traffic on the non-SR tunnel.
