Female fiber optic connectors having a connection port opening for receiving a fiber optic plug and cable assemblies comprising the female fiber optic connector along with methods of making the same. The female fiber optic connectors comprise an actuator such as a rocker latch arm used for releasing or securing an external fiber optic plug that may be received in the connection port. A main barrel of the female fiber optic connector comprises a connection port suitable for receiving an external fiber optic plug connector. The female fiber optic connectors disclosed advantageously allow for an quick and easy connection with an external fiber optic plug connector for ruggedized or other desired applications. Methods for terminating the optical fibers of a cable to the female fiber optic connector for forming cable assemblies are also disclosed.

A fiber optic connector for connecting one or more optical fibers to a fiber optic component includes: a ferrule configured to receive the one or more optical fibers; a ferrule holder configured to be coupled to the ferrule, wherein the ferrule and ferrule holder forms a ferrule support assembly when coupled together; and a shroud configured to be positioned about the ferrule support assembly and connectable to the fiber optic component. The ferrule support assembly and the shroud are configured so that the ferrule support assembly is movable relative to the shroud to positions outside the shroud when the shroud is disconnected from the fiber optic component, and the ferrule support assembly is confined within the shroud when the shroud is connected to the fiber optic component. A method of forming a fiber optic assembly using such a fiber optic connector is also disclosed.

A traceable fiber optic cable assembly with an illumination structure and tracing optical fibers for carrying light received from a light launch device is disclosed herein. The traceable fiber optic cable assembly and light launch device provide easy tracing of the traceable fiber optic cable assembly using fiber optic tracing signals. Further, the launch connector is easily attached to and removed from the fiber optic connector with repeatable and reliable alignment of optic fibers, even when the fiber optic connector is mechanically and/or optically engaged with a network component. The fiber optic connectors are configured to efficiently illuminate an exterior of the connector for effective visibility for a user to quickly locate the fiber optic connector.

Disclosed herein is a traceable fiber optic cable assembly with indication of polarity. In particular, the traceable fiber optic cable assembly includes a traceable fiber optic cable, a first duplex connector at a first end of the fiber optic cable, and a second duplex connector at a second end of the fiber optic cable. A first tracing end of the tracing optical fiber is in a preconfigured orientation in the first duplex connector offset from a central axis of the first duplex connector, and a second tracing end of the tracing optical fiber is in a preconfigured orientation in the second duplex connector offset from a central axis of the second duplex connector. The tracing optical fiber receives an optical tracing signal for propagation to the second tracing end of the first tracing optical fiber to indicate a first orientation of the first duplex connector corresponding to a first polarity state of the traceable fiber optic cable assembly.

A light launch device for transmitting light into a traceable fiber optic cable assembly with tracing optical fibers is disclosed herein. The traceable fiber optic cable assembly and light launch device provide easy tracing of the traceable fiber optic cable assembly using fiber optic tracing signals. A cable tracing system includes a fiber optic connector with a connector fiber guide. The connector fiber guide includes a planar surface, a launch opening defined in the planar surface, and at least one alignment surface proximate the planar surface. The connector also includes a tracing optical fiber with a first launch end positioned within the launch opening of the fiber guide. The tracing optical fiber is accessible from an exterior of the housing for receiving an optical tracing signal from a launch optical fiber. The alignment surface is configured to axially align the launch optical fiber with the first tracing optical fiber.

A traceable cable assembly includes a traceable cable having at least one data transmission element, a jacket at least partially surrounding the data transmission element, and first and second tracing optical fibers extending along at least a portion of a length of the traceable cable. The traceable cable assembly also includes a connector provided at each end of the traceable cable. The first and second tracing optical fibers each have a light launch end and a light emission end. The light launch ends of the first and second tracing optical fibers each include a bend. The bend allows for launching of light into the light launch ends without disengaging the first or second connectors from corresponding connector receptacles.

A fiber optic connector includes a connector sub-assembly having a connector body, a latch arm extending outwardly and rearwardly from a portion of the connector body, a housing in which a rear portion of the connector sub-assembly is received, and a trigger extending outwardly from the housing and over the end of the latch arm. An end of the latch arm can be depressed toward the connector body, and the trigger is configured to flex toward the housing to depress the latch arm. The connector includes a locking member movable between a rearward position in which the locking member prevents the trigger from depressing the latch arm, and a forward position in which the locking member allows the trigger to depress the latch arm.

A strain relief boot and a fiber optic cable assembly are described. The strain relief boot has a first conduit made of at least a first material. The first conduit has a front segment and a rear segment. The rear segment includes at least one discontinuity to make the rear segment more flexible than the front segment. The rear segment also includes at least one projection extending outwardly from the rear segment at a location adjacent to the at least one discontinuity. The strain relief boot also has a second conduit made from at least a second material that is less rigid than the first material. The second conduit at least partially surrounds at least the rear segment of the first conduit and extends rearwardly of the first conduit.

A fiber cleaver having a displaceable fiber guide for aligning and guiding an optical fiber. Generally, the fiber cleaver includes a pair of clamps that may articulate between a retracted position and a clamping position. A displaceable fiber guide directs the optical fiber as it travels along an internal path of the fiber cleaver. The fiber guide translates between a loading position and a clamping position. When the clamps are securing the optical fiber to the internal path, a linear actuator may be depressed in order to translate the fiber guide and ultimately direct the optical fiber toward a scoring blade to cleave the fiber. The fiber guide is sized and shaped such that a predetermined length of optical fiber will remain after cleaving.

A fiber optic connector is described herein. The fiber optic connector includes a ferrule for supporting at least one optical fiber of a fiber optic cable, a ferrule holder from which the ferrule extends, a housing in which the ferrule holder is received, and a strain relief device at least partially located within the housing. The strain relief device has at least one resilient clamping member selectively applying a compressive force to at least a portion of the fiber optic cable. The strain relief device also has an actuator at least partially surrounding the ferrule holder, and used to place the at least one resilient clamping member into compressed contact with the fiber optic cable, thus retaining the fiber optic cable within the housing.

Optical fiber guide apparatuses for splice connector installation tools, and related assemblies and methods are disclosed. The optical fiber guide apparatus may include at least one alignment member to align an optical fiber guide with a splice connector installation tool. The optical fiber guide is configured to guide an optical fiber to a fiber entry of a fiber optic connector installed in the splice connection installation tool. In this manner, when the alignment member is alignably interfaced with the splice connector installation tool, the optical fiber guide apparatus is also aligned with the splice connector installation tool to accurately guide the optical fiber to the fiber optic connector installed in the splice connector installation tool.

A data center connector (DCC) system includes a receptacle connector assembly that includes a receptacle body having a plug receiving end, a panel assertion end and a plug receiving chamber at the plug receiving end that receives a plug body of a plug connector assembly. A receptacle ferrule is located in the receptacle body. The receptacle ferrule is moveable axially within the receptacle body and biased toward the plug receiving end. A plug connector assembly includes a plug body having an insertion end sized to be received within the plug receiving chamber of the receptacle body. A plug ferrule is fixed axially within the plug body that contacts the receptacle ferrule and moves the receptacle ferrule axially with the plug body being inserted within the plug receiving chamber of the receptacle body.

A fiber handler for handling a plurality of different fiber optic cable constructions is disclosed. Generally, the fiber handler comprises a first face that accepts a fiber optic cable of a first construction and a second face that accepts a fiber optic cable of a second construction. An alternate embodiment is disclosed that can accommodate up to four different fiber optic cable constructions. The fiber handler may interface with a fiber optic installation tool such as a fiber cleaving tool or a fiber splicing tool where it functions to align an optical fiber of the cable with functional components of the tool to be cleaved, fused, or the like.
