There is disclosed a method of manufacturing a composite component, the method comprising laying-up a plurality of successive plies of composite material to produce a pre-form () for the component in a lay-up procedure, wherein a portion of each ply of composite material is heated to at least a threshold temperature of 45&#xb0; C. during a period of the lay-up procedure.

Methods of designing a plybook for a composite component are disclosed. Included method comprising: defining a component volume corresponding to the composite component to be manufactured; defining a plurality of successive plies of composite material to fill the component volume; simulating at least some of the plurality of successive plies of composite material based on an estimate of variable cured ply thickness, wherein the variable cured ply thickness is estimated by: simulating at least a portion of a respective ply of composite material; and estimating a cured ply thickness for the portion of composite material at least partly based on local conditions of the portion. A plybook is defined based on the plurality of simulated plies.

Method of designing a plybook for a composite component

Computer-implemented methods of generating a movement profile for a layup procedure are provided. Methods include a movement profile defining relative movement between an applicator head and a tool along a head path for laying up a course of composite material. Method comprise: determining a bond strength profile along the head path; and determining a movement profile based on the bond strength profile, wherein the movement profile includes a variable rate of relative movement.
