Techniques for efficiently capturing targets, such as biological materials, within the air are described. A lightweight, portable device is configured to capture the targets without desiccation by flowing a mixture of air carrying the targets with liquid droplets through a nonlinear path in a partially enclosed interior of the device. For example, a method includes generating an impinging jet comprising a mixture of air, a target, and droplets. A baffle splits the impinging jet into a recirculation zone and coalesces a mixture of the target and the droplets onto an upper surface of the baffle. At least one channel receives the coalesced mixture and transports the coalesced mixture to a collection reservoir.

Nondessicating target capture device

Methods of fabricating a hydrogel tube, and related systems, employ extrusion of a cross-linkable hydrogel solution from an annular outer nozzle of a nozzle assembly to form a cross-linkable hydrogel tube. The cross-linkable hydrogel tube is cured to form a cross-linked hydrogel tube. A second hydrogel solution can be coextruded via the axial inner nozzle to form an inner hydrogel filament coaxially positioned within the cross-linkable hydrogel tube. The cross-linked hydrogel tube can be functionalized with collagen to enable cell adhesion, and cells can be cultured on the luminal surfaces of these tubes to yield tubular endothelial layers. A 3D printed coaxial nozzle can be used to fabricate biofunctional tubular conduits that can be utilized for engineering in vitro models of tubular biological structures.

Extruded hydrogel tubes and coaxial fibers and applications thereof

A sample vessel includes a biological sample container and a sample stabilizer container. The biological sample container is configured to receive a biological sample and to store the biological sample. The sample stabilizer container is configured to contain a stabilizer associated with the biological sample. The sample stabilizer container is assembled from a stabilizer vial, an adaptor, and a fluid channel. The stabilizer vial is configured to store an amount of the stabilizer. The adaptor is configured to secure the biological sample container and the stabilizer vial such that the biological sample container and the stabilizer vial form the sample vessel. The fluid channel extends through the adaptor from the stabilizer vial to the biological sample container, the biological sample moving from the biological sample container into the stabilizer vial through the fluid channel.

Fluid transfer system for applications including stabilizing biological fluids

The present technology provides spontaneous capillary flow devices for patterning walls on a hydrophilic substrate. In some embodiments, the devices include rails having a first end portion for receiving a flowable material, a second end portion opposite the first end portion, and a base portion having a flow surface extending between the first end portion and the second end portion. The flow surface can face the hydrophilic substrate and define a flow path. When the flowable material is released into the first end portion, the flowable material flows via spontaneous capillary flow from the first end portion to the second end portion along the flow path to create a partition on the hydrophilic substrate.

Fluidic patterning of hydrogel partitions

The disclosed apparatus, systems and methods relate to a modular microfluidic device, the component comprising a channel comprising an apex opening, wherein the apex opening that is at least partially surrounded by a collar configured to pin a liquid within the channel. The modular microfluidic device may also have a structural tip in or near the apex opening which is configured to allow for the flow of the liquid into the channel from a second component for a modular microfluidic device when the component is engaged with the second component.
