Radar localization systems and methods are provided to determine the location of an object. The radar localization systems and methods can determine the location of an object based on data obtained from at least two radar measurements made by the radar localization device. In some embodiments, a radar localization system can be included in a wireless communications system that conducts both wireless communications and radar sensing. Radar localization systems include at least a computing unit that performs a radar localization method. Radar localization methods may use map data in object localization to eliminate non-feasible locations of the object.

System and methods for vehicle localization using infrastructure sensing

Joint communication and sensing by a joint communication and sensing system in a wireless network is disclosed. A transmitter is arranged to transmit a first beam in a direction selected from a plurality of directions stored in a memory, where each direction corresponds to a direction of a respective remote device. An assignments providing unit () provides assignments between the electrical devices and behavior classes defining expected behaviors, wherein a deviation determination unit () determines a deviation a) between a monitored behavior of an electrical device assigned to a behavior class and an expected behavior defined by a behavior class and/or b) between a monitored behavior of an electrical device and a monitored behavior of another electrical device, wherein an output unit () provides an output depending on the determined deviation. The deviation can be indicative of a commissioning error, i.e., for instance, of an assignment of an electrical device to a wrong room within a building. The monitoring system can therefore allow for an automatic detection of commissioning errors in a building which may have thousands of electrical devices.

The invention relates to an operational state determination apparatus () for determining whether a variation in a determined electrical parameter of an electrical network () is caused by a variation in an operational state of an electrical consumer of the electrical network. The invention relates to detecting commissioning errors in a commissioned sensor system, wherein the sensor system comprises a plurality of sensor devices installed so as to cover an area. The sensor devices capture sensor data from the area whilst at least one entity moves through the area. A computer system of the sensor system processes the sensor data to generate a set of location data, which identifies locations traversed by the at least one moving entity. A discrepancy in the set of location data in detected, the discrepancy caused by at least one of the sensor devices having been incorrectly commissioned. Based on this detection, a modification can be made to the sensor system to compensate for or correct the incorrect commissioning of the at least one sensor device.

Lighting control method for excess electrical power accounting

Method of detecting a change in a lighting system comprising a plurality of devices each comprising a luminaire and/or a sensor, wherein each respective one of the devices has a respective location recorded in a commissioning database in association with data reported by the respective device; the method comprising: identifying a subset of said devices located within a predetermined spatial demarcation; automatically monitoring a respective value of a characteristic of each of the devices in said subset, thereby forming a data cluster comprising the values of said characteristic for the subset; automatically detecting that one of one of the devices in the subset has been moved by detecting a shift in one of the cluster values relative to the rest of the values in the data cluster; and in response to said detection, automatically outputting an indication that the commissioning database is likely to require updating to reflect said change.

A wireless node for use in a network of wireless nodes, for performing a localization to determine a location of a mobile device based on respective beacon signals transmitted wirelessly between the mobile device and each of a plurality of the wireless nodes. The first wireless node is configured to: wirelessly transmit or receive the respective beacon signal for use in determining the location of the mobile device; and wirelessly transmit information vouching for one or more others of the wireless nodes as being trusted for use in the localization. This information is transmitted to a device performing the localization (e.g. the mobile device), for use in identifying one or more rogue versions of said wireless nodes.

A controller for controlling a battery-powered luminaire in a lighting network comprises: a network interface for communicating with the lighting network; and control logic for controlling at least one illumination source of the battery-powered luminaire; wherein the control logic is configured to: detect a failure of at least one mains-powered luminaire in the lighting network, determine that the mains-powered luminaire was emitting or had been instructed to emit a visual alert when the failure occurred, and control the at least one illumination source of the battery-powered luminaire to emit a version of that visual alert in response, the failure being detected based on a loss of communication, within the lighting network, with the mains-powered luminaire.

Visual alerts in a lighting network

In a people counting system, a plurality of vision sensors is arranged to provide sensor coverage of an area. Each is arranged to provide individual sensor coverage of a portion of the area within its field of view. Each of a plurality of local image processors is connected to a respective one of the vision sensors. Each of the local image processors is configured to apply a local person detection algorithm to at least one image captured by its respective vision sensor, thereby generating a local presence metric representative of a number of people detected in the at least one image. A central processor is configured to estimate the total number of people in the area covered by the vision sensors by applying an aggregation algorithm to the local presence metrics generated by the local image processors. As it is critical that user privacy be taken into account when utilising such people counting technology, an opt-out is enabled. For instance, there may be users who do not want to reveal any information that may be perceived give away information related to their presence. In this context, a user is a person in the environment where people counting may be implemented. The disclosure applies not only to people counting, but to other contexts where people may be monitored, for example, a CCTV environment.
