A technique facilitates actuation of a downhole device, such as an isolation valve. According to an embodiment, the downhole device may be in the form of an isolation valve member, e.g. a ball valve element, actuated between positions by a mechanical section which may comprise a shifting linkage. Actuation of the mechanical section, and thus actuation of the isolation valve member, is achieved by a trip saver section controlled according to a pressure signature which may be applied from a suitable location, e.g. from the surface. The trip saver section comprises a housing having an internal actuation piston coupled with the mechanical section. The trip saver section further comprises a pilot piston and a plurality of chambers formed in a wall of the housing and arranged to enable shifting of the actuation piston in response to a predetermined series of pressure pulses or other suitable pressure signature.

System and methodology for actuating a downhole device

A valve assembly that can be deployed in a subterranean well that includes a valve adapted to selectively isolate a region of the subterranean well, and a separating apparatus. The separating apparatus may further include at least one member being formed from a functional material and at least two sleeves connected by the at least one member.

Isolation valves

An isolation valve system includes a well string having an isolation valve including a ball rotatably mounted to a pair of inserts for rotation about a fixed axis, an arm coupled to the ball at a position offset from the fixed axis, and a mandrel connected to an actuation end of the arm, the mandrel and the actuation end of the arm being disposed uphole of the ball. Via the actuation end of the arm, the mandrel forces rotation of the ball from a closed position to an open position by moving in a linear direction away from the ball, which allows flow of fluid along a through hole of the ball.

Ball valve for improved performance in debris laden environments

Well operating elements and related methods are described. One embodiment may take the form of a method that includes deploying a well operating element having first and second components into a well bore, wherein the second component is soluble in the selected wellbore environment and whose rate and/or location of dissolution is at least partially controlled by structure of the first component. This abstract allows a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure. Well operating elements comprising a soluble component and methods of use

A system, apparatus, and method for gravel packing a wellbore. The system includes a service tool extending through a packer that isolates a proximal annulus of the wellbore from a distal annulus thereof. The service tool defines an inner bore and a conduit, with the conduit being in fluid communication with the proximal annulus and the distal annulus. The system also includes a flow restrictor disposed in the conduit. The flow restrictor is configured to induce a first pressure drop in fluid flowing through the conduit in a first direction and to induce a second pressure drop in fluid flowing through the conduit in a second direction, with the second pressure drop being greater than the first pressure drop.

Well operating elements are described, one embodiment comprising a first component that is substantially non-dissolvable when exposed to a selected wellbore environment and a second component that is soluble in the selected wellbore environment and whose rate and/or location of dissolution is at least partially controlled by structure of the first component. A second embodiment includes the component that is soluble in the selected wellbore environment, and one or more exposure holes or passages in the soluble component to control its solubility. The second embodiment may or may not include a substantially non-dissolvable component. Methods of using the well operating elements in oilfield operations are also described. A connector guard is provided to protect one or both downhole connectors during wellbore run in prior to mating downhole. The connector guard may comprise dissolvable or degradable material and include an engagement sections and a removal feature. The connector guard may be dissolved or degraded via a reactive agent or temperature either introduced downhole proximate to the guards or contained within a chamber included in or created by a connector guard. The connector guard may be further coupled by a non-reactive cover in order to control the rate of reaction of the dissolvable material. The cover may be breached prior to mating of the downhole connectors.

Apparatus for multi-zone wellbores that can by-pass upper hydrocarbon bearing zones and deliver fluid to lower hydrocarbon bearing zones. The apparatus can include at least one housing, and at least one port can be formed through the housing. An inner sleeve can be positioned within the housing. At least one cavity can be radially disposed on an outer diameter of the inner sleeve, and each cavity can be located within an annulus formed between the inner sleeve and the housing. A ball can be disposed within each cavity, and the ball can be adapted to selectively engage the port.

Diverter valve

An apparatus includes a casing and a sealing element that is retained in the casing. The sealing element has an unset state in which the sealing element has a first radial thickness and a set state in which the sealing element has a second radial thickness that is greater than the first radial thickness to form a seal between the casing and an inner tubular member.

Anchoring and sealing system for cased hole wells

An apparatus includes a connector to connect a first tubing section and a second tubing section together. The connector that includes a body that includes a first opening to receive the first tubing section, a second opening to receive the second tubing section, and a passageway. The apparatus includes a member that is adapted to be moved from a retracted position to an extended position to form a sealed connection between a tubular member that is connected to the first tubing section and the passageway.

An apparatus for deployment of a reagent downhole includes a housing configured to move in a borehole; a chamber for storing the reagent, wherein the chamber is disposed in the housing and has one or more outlets for dispensing the reagent; a piston configured to move in the chamber; and a trigger mechanism. A method for deploying a reagent downhole includes disposing a tool downhole, wherein the tool comprises a canister storing the reagent, wherein the canister includes a housing configured to move in a borehole, a chamber for storing the reagent, wherein the chamber is disposed in the housing and has one or more outlets for dispensing the reagent, a piston configured to move in the chamber, and a trigger mechanism; and activating the trigger mechanism to move the piston to deploy the reagent.

Chemical deployment canisters for downhole use

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes a string and a plurality of tools that are mounted in the string. The string includes a passageway. The tools are mounted in the string and are adapted to be placed in a state to catch objects (free-falling objects and/or pumped-down objects, as just a few examples) of substantially the same size, which are communicated downhole through the passageway.
