Technologies directed to the management of location-aware WLAN profiles are described. A wireless device can store instructions and data with a first environment identifier (EID) unique to a first physical location and a second EID unique to a second physical location. A processing device of the wireless device can generate a third EID at the first physical location and determine that the third EID matches the first EID. The wireless device connects to a first wireless network at a first physical location using a first network name and a first password associated with the first EID.

Managing location-aware wireless local area network (WLAN) profiles

Techniques for increasing the security and reliability of frame transmission are described. In an example, a network access device transmits a first frame indicating that a protected frame is to be used for a power mode change. The network access device receives a second frame that includes an identifier of a device and a change to a power mode of the device. The network access device determines whether the second frame is protected. In addition, the network access device determines whether data received for the device is to be stored prior to transmission to the device based at least in part on whether the second frame is protected.

Protected power management transitions in wireless networks

The disclosure describes, in part, techniques for attempting to diagnose the cause of a wireless connection problem in a client computing device and, in response, performing one or more actions for remedying the problem. In some instances, the techniques describe the client device communicating with one or more other client devices in the environment to determine whether they are connected to the WAP using the same password or a different password as the client device. If the former, then the client device may determine that the network stack is likely the cause of the connection error and may attempt to restart the network stack to current problem. If the other devices indicate that they are using the same password, however, then the client device may prompt a user to re-enter the network password.

Remedying wireless-network connection failures

Techniques for improving the power management of devices are described. In an example, a device transitions into a power save mode. While in the power save mode, the device performs a number of operations. The operations include transitioning into an awake state and determining that the device has no data to transmit to a network access device. The operations also include determining a sequence number associated with data transmission to the network access device. The operations further include generating a frame that includes a header field and a payload field. The header field includes the sequence number and power management data. The power management data indicates a transition of the device to the awake state. Additionally, the operations include transmitting the frame to the network access device.

Device power management transitions in wireless networks

Technologies for path selection in wireless mesh network of wireless network devices are described. One method includes receiving a first response from a second mesh network device and a second response wirelessly from the second mesh network device, the first response associated with a first request to establish a first wireless path with a third mesh network device and the second response associated with a second request to establish a second wireless path with a fourth mesh network device. The method determines that the first response and the second response include a same sequential number (SN) for the second mesh network device. The method forwards the first response to the third mesh network device and forwards the second response to the fourth mesh network device.

Path selection between wireless mesh network devices

Technologies directed to access point (AP) classification and selection to minimize a number of disconnect messages and achieve better throughput and reduce latency when a device is presented with multiple basic service set identifiers (BSSIDs) for AP selection are described. One method receives disconnect metrics from wireless devices, the disconnect metrics including a reason code associated with a disconnect message and a BSSID and an Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) associated with an AP. The method identifies a set of APs using a reason code for a load balancing or band steering operation by clustering the disconnect metrics. The method receives a query with a first BSSID and a first OUI associated with a first AP and determines that the first AP is part of the set of APs using the reason code. The method sends a response with the reason code being used for load balancing or band steering operation.

Access point (AP) classification and selection

Technologies directed to reducing medium access contention within a wireless network are described. One method includes a first wireless device (e.g., an access point (AP) or mesh station) receiving first data with a first schedule from a second wireless device. Both wireless devices operate on a first channel or an adjacent channel in a wireless network. The first schedule defines a first interval during which the second wireless device transmits or receives frames on the first channel or the second channel. The first wireless device generates a second schedule that defines a second interval during which the first wireless device transmits or receives frames on the first or second channels, the second interval being non-overlapping with the first interval. First wireless device sends second data with the second schedule to the second AP device and communicates a data frame with a device connected to the first wireless device according to the second schedule.

Reducing medium access contention in a wireless mesh network

A wireless mesh network includes a first wireless access point (WAP) device designated as a primary device, where the first WAP device provides network connectivity to a plurality of client devices over a first dynamic frequency selection (DFS) channel. A second WAP device is designated as a secondary device to the first WAP device on the first DFS channel. In response to detection of a radar event by the first WAP device: the first WAP device transitions to being the secondary device on the first DFS channel; the second WAP device transitions to being the primary device on the first DFS channel; and the second WAP device performs a channel availability check (CAC) on a second DFS channel and communicates availability of the second DFS channel to the first WAP device.

Multi-mode dynamic frequency selection system

A wireless access point device includes a radio to establish a communication link on a first primary channel using a wireless local area network (WLAN) protocol. The communication link has an operating channel bandwidth and a communication link bandwidth that is adjustable to be identical to or lower than the operating channel bandwidth. The operating channel bandwidth includes the first primary channel and a plurality of secondary channels. The WAP device is to determine that received data, which contains in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) values, does not include a valid WLAN frame; determine that a first secondary channel of the plurality of secondary channels has an interference signal signature via application of frequency domain analysis on the I/Q sample values; and modify the communication link bandwidth from a first frequency range to a second width frequency range, which does not include the first secondary channel.

Radio interference detection and dynamic channel bandwidth management

Technology for network loop detection in a hybrid mesh network is described. In one embodiment, processing logic receives a network event message indicating a change in a network topology of a mesh network and, responsive to the network event message, determines that the mesh network includes at least one network loop comprising a plurality of communication links connecting two nodes of the mesh network. The processing logic further determines that the at least one network loop includes at least one wired communication link and disables at least one of the plurality of communication links to disconnect the at least one network loop.

Network loop detection in hybrid mesh networks

Technologies transmit scheduling in multi-radio devices are described. One multi-radio device includes first and second radios and a scheduler circuit. The scheduler circuit outputs a first signal to the radios in a first mode in which the first radio is transmitting first data and the second WLAN radio is transmitting second data concurrently. The first signal increases a first clear channel assessment energy detect (CCA-ED) threshold to a second CCA-ED threshold. The scheduler circuit outputs a second signal to the second WLAN radio in a second mode. The second signal causes transmission of fourth data to be delayed until after the first radio completes reception of third data. In a third mode, the scheduler circuit outputs a third signal to the first WLAN radio. The third signal causes transmission of fifth data to be delayed until after the second radio completes reception of sixth data.

Transmit scheduling in multi-radio devices

Technologies directed to allow a wireless network device with a single wireless local area network (WLAN) radio to act as a mesh station (Mesh STA) and also an access point (AP) are described. A processor sends data in a specified mode, via a radio, to identify itself as a mesh station in the mesh network and an AP in an access network. The processor receives a first frame via the radio and determines that the first frame is directed to the mesh station and receives a second frame via the radio and determines that the second frame is directed to the AP. The processor processes the first frame as a mesh frame using first processing logic and processes the second frame as an AP frame using second processing logic.

Simultaneous mesh and access point operation modes of a radio

Techniques are described for an unbuffered multicast delivery mode representing the capability of transmitting a multicast frame within a same DTIM interval during which the multicast frame is received. In an example, a network access device determines that a first computing device is in a power saving mode. The network access device receives, during a DTIM interval while the first computing device is in the power saving mode, a multicast frame destined to a multicast MAC address. The network access device determines an association between the multicast MAC address and a device MAC address of a second computing device. The network access device sends, during the DTIM interval and based on the association, the multicast frame to the second computing device.
