Disclosed herein are various embodiments for a cloud resources allocation system. An embodiment operates by determining that an application requests a plurality of instances to execute across one or more processors of a cloud services platform. One or more spare instances are requested to fulfill at least a portion of the plurality of instances, and an allocation of at least a subset of the requested one or more spare instances is received. An execution of the application is directed to the allocated subset of the one or more spare instances, including a first spare instance. A notification is received from the cloud services platform that the first spare instance is to be reallocated to a different process. A subsequent execution of the application is redirected to an on demand instance of the cloud services platform.

Techniques for serverless performance testing of applications are provided. A user can indicate an application to test within a serverless computing framework. The user can specify parameters for testing the application. A performance test execution file can be generated based on the indicated application and the specified testing parameters. Serverless functions for implementing the testing of the application can be generated based on the performance test execution file. The serverless functions can be executed to implement the testing of the application code on a cloud-based computing resource. Test outputs can be generated and stored for review and analysis in real-time during the testing and after the testing is concluded.

Generic serverless performance testing framework

Exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for improving startup times of a cloud-based virtual servers in response to a spike in service usage (although other applications are contemplated and described). According to some embodiments, in response to a request to provision a new virtual server in a cluster, high-priority services (e.g., those that enable the server to respond to system health checks or that support an application providing the service) are started while lower-priority services are delayed. In some embodiments, prior to receiving such a request, a new server may be started and then hibernated to create a 'hot spare.' When the request is received, the hot spare may be taken out of hibernation to quickly bring the hot spare online. It is contemplated that the delayed-startup and hot spare embodiments may be used together to further improve performance.
