Embodiments of the disclosure aggregate and present event information relating to a calendar event associated with an application executing on a computing device. In some embodiments, data relating to the calendar event is obtained from a content source that is outside an execution context of the application. The data relating to the calendar event is obtained and/or presented intermittently in a user interface element associated with the application. The content source that is outside the execution context of the application may be within an execution context of one or more other applications, an operating system of the computing device, and/or a web service.

Aggregating and presenting event information

Methods, apparatus, and computer-readable storage media are disclosed for applying filtering operations to data transferred as part of a direct memory access (DMA) operation. In one example of the disclosed technology, a system includes a processor, memory, and a direct memory access (DMA) engine coupled to the memory for reading a set of data from a selected range of read memory addresses for the memory without using the processor. A line buffer coupled to the DMA engine is configured to receive DMA read data and temporarily store a portion, but not all of the data set being read by the DMA engine in a line buffer. A digital filter is configured to apply a filtering operation to a windowed subset of the buffered portion of the data set, producing filtered data that is stored to a selected range of write memory addresses for the memory, without using the processor.

Architecture that provides a unified interface to access resources in different formats and in disparate resource locations for a process (e.g., consuming application). Format-specific indexers are provided for the resources to find, enumerate, and process the resources into a structure suitable for processing by an indexing component into the index. The unified interface now provides access to the new resources and new resources references as well.

Unified access to resources

Techniques pertaining to analyzing power consumed by a processing unit in a mobile computing device caused by execution of certain modules are described herein. A power trace is generated that indicates an amount of power consumed by the processing unit over time, and the power trace is aligned with an execution log. Spikes are extracted from the power trace, and computing operations are performed over the spikes to acquire data pertaining to power consumed by the processing unit that are attributable to modules in the execution log.

Analyzing power consumption in mobile computing devices

Systems and methods for video ad delivery using configurable dynamic video ad policies are provided. A system for delivering video ads to a video client may include an ad platform service. The ad platform service may have a media registration module configured to receive input data including a video ad policy and associated metadata and digital video content from a digital video content client. The ad platform service may further include a registration database configured to store input data received from the media registration module. The ad platform service may further include a manifest service and an associated manifest generation engine, wherein the manifest service may be configured to receive an ad manifest request from a video client. In response, the manifest generation engine may be configured to generate a manifest instance based on input data received at the manifest service, the manifest service being configured to send the manifest instance to the video client.

Video ad delivery using configurable video ad policies

A method for registering a media for configurable advertising is described herein. Advertising policies from a publisher of the media may be received at a video advertising platform. A request from the publisher to register the media for advertising may be received at a video advertising platform. The request may have media metadata. A media manifest may be generated at the video advertising platform. The media manifest may be based on the media metadata and the advertising policies. The media manifest may be configured to be received by a media player. The media player may play the media with one or more advertisements as specified by the media manifest.

Registering media for configurable advertising

The claimed system is a multicast programming model for implementation on top of a service oriented framework, specifically a service oriented messaging system. It provides application-layer multicast capability without requiring an IP multicast infrastructure. A method is described that resets a first count and resets a second count if a first transmission unit is recognized as being within a new measurement time window. The first transmission unit has a size. The method also increments the first count by the first transmission unit size and by the size of each subsequent transmission unit that is received within the new measurement time window after the first transmission unit&#x2014;so long as the first count does not exceed a maximum allowable value for the first count. The method also checks if a maximum value for the second count is exceeded if it is incremented by a second transmission unit size. The second transmission unit is received within the measurement time window. The check is in response to a determination that the first count would have exceeded the first count maximum allowable valuable if the first count were incremented by the second transmission unit size.

Method and apparatus for input policing a network connection

Relational database applications such as index selection, histogram tuning, approximate query processing, and statistics selection have recognized the importance of leveraging workloads. Often these applications are presented with large workloads, i.e., a set of SQL DML statements, as input. A key factor affecting the scalability of such applications is the size of the workload. The invention concerns workload compression which helps improve the scalability of such applications. The exemplary embodiment is broadly applicable to a variety of workload-driven applications, while allowing for incorporation of application specific knowledge. The process is described in detail in the context of two workload-driven applications: index selection and approximate query processing.
