The present invention provides a water soluble polymer surfactant (PS-DGlu) of formula I which is utilized for synthesis of functionalized polystyrene nanobead covalently incorporating (oligo) p-phenylenevinylene (OPV) nanosensor (PSG-OPV-n) which in turn is useful for the detection of bilirubin in human serum. The present invention further provides a process for the preparation of the water soluble polymer surfactant (PS-DGlu) of formula (I) and a mini emulsion polymerization process for the synthesis of PSG-OPV-n. wherein, n is 30-50. The PSG-OPV-n nanosensor beads show selectivity towards detection of bilirubin in presence of interferences such as glucose, sucrose, metal ions, cholesterol, and biliverdin with limit of detection of 20 nM. Ultimately, the invention also provides a kit for visual detection of bilirubin in human serum.

The present invention provide water soluble polyfluorenes functionalized with glucuronic acid useful in sensing bilirubin in aqueous medium and process for preparation thereof. The invention further deals with detecting bilirubin in human serum samples in the range from normal (&#x3c;25 &#x3bc;mol/L&#x2dc;1.2 mg/dL) human bilirubin level to jaundiced bilirubin level (&#x3e;50 &#x3bc;mol/L&#x2dc;2.5 mg/dL).This is a fluorescence turn-off mode of detection where blue fluorescence of polymer quenches and becomes colorless. The water soluble polyfluorenes functionalized with glucuronic acid can detect free bilirubin in the range from 1&#xd7;10M to 1&#xd7;10M moles in aqueous and buffer media as a change in the fluorescence signal.

The present invention involves the design of a radiation curable organic pre polymer resin material based on urethane acrylic linkage synthesized from the natural renewable resource cardanol or a derivative thereof, for coating application. These new molecules have a faster and better curing rate compared to the starting renewable resource&#x2014;cardanol. This is brought about by the hydrogen bonding of the urethane linkage which leads to a pre organization of the molecules in such a way as to bring the cross linkable double bonds closer to each other. The resin, either in a formulation or alone turns into a cross linked film upon photopolymerization in presence of photoinitiator under a UV curable radiation source like a mercury vapor pressure lamp.
