Barocaloric heat transfer systems and related methods are generally described. In some embodiments, a heat transfer system may include a barocaloric material which may generate heat upon compression and may cool down upon decompression. The barocaloric material may be pressurized using high pressure and low pressure fluids, which may, in some embodiments, also transfer heat to/from the barocaloric material. The heat transfer system may also include a hot heat exchanger to dissipate heat from the heat transfer system to a first environment and a cold heat exchanger to absorb heat from a second environment, effectively cooling the second environment. In some embodiments, the barocaloric material may be in particulate form.

Barocaloric heat transfer systems and methods of use

Energy storage systems are disclosed. The systems may store energy as heat in a high temperature liquid, and the heat may be converted to electricity by absorbing radiation emitted from the high temperature liquid via one or more photovoltaic devices when the high temperature liquid is transported through an array of conduits. Some aspects described herein relate to reducing deposition of sublimated material from the conduits onto the photovoltaic devices.

The present disclosure relates to a photovoltaic (PV) device that includes a first junction constructed with a first alloy and having a bandgap between about 1.0 eV and about 1.5 eV, and a second junction constructed with a second alloy and having a bandgap between about 0.9 eV and about 1.3 eV, where the first alloy includes III-V elements, the second alloy includes III-V elements, and the PV device is configured to operate in a thermophotovoltaic system having an operating temperature between about 1500° C. and about 3000° C.

The present disclosure generally relates in certain embodiments to a combined cycle power plant system comprising an electrochemical compressor. For instance, in one set of embodiments, the electrochemical compressor is may separate oxygen from a flow of air from an air source to provide a pressurized flow of oxygen to a combustor. In some embodiments, the resulting combustion products may only include oxygen and water without any substantial fraction of other combustion products or contaminants which may facilitate the separation of carbon dioxide (CO) for subsequent processes including compression and/or storage.

The present disclosure relates to a method for manufacturing a device, where the device includes, in order, a metamorphic contact layer, a first metamorphic junction, a metamorphic tunnel junction, and a second metamorphic junction. To produce the device, the manufacturing includes, in order, a first depositing of a buffer layer onto a substrate, a second depositing of the metamorphic contact layer, a third depositing of the first metamorphic junction, a fourth depositing of the metamorphic tunnel junction, a fifth depositing of the second metamorphic junction, and the removing of the buffer layer and the substrate.

Thermally-conductive ceramic and ceramic composite components suitable for high temperature applications, systems having such components, and methods of manufacturing such components. The thermally-conductive components are formed by a displacive compensation of porosity (DCP) process and are suitable for use at operating temperatures above 600&#xb0; C. without a significant reduction in thermal and mechanical properties.

Energy storage system

The disclosed technology includes pumps, pipes, valves, seals, and systems for pumping and controlling high temperature fluids, such as liquid tin, at temperatures of between 1000-3000&#xb0; C. The systems and device may be partially or entirely constructed using brittle materials, such as ceramics, that are capable of withstanding extreme heat without significantly degrading, and may be secured using components made of refractory metals, such as tungsten. The systems and devices may utilize static and dynamic seals made from brittle materials, such as graphite, to enable the high temperature operation of such pumps, pipes, valves, and systems without leakage.

An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a reactor system comprising: a reaction vessel comprising a reactant, a heat transfer fluid and a first reaction product, wherein the heat transfer fluid has a greater density than the first reaction product such that at least a portion of the first reaction product floats on a surface of the heat transfer fluid; a first outlet positioned at a surface level of the first reaction product, the first outlet configured to output a first outlet flow comprising at least a portion of the first reaction product and at least a portion of the heat transfer fluid; wherein the heat transfer fluid is configured to provide thermal energy to the reactant in the reaction vessel to form the first reaction product.
