Biomedical implants in accordance with various embodiments of the invention can be implemented in many different ways. The implants can be configured to receive power and transmit data, both wirelessly and simultaneously. Such devices can be configured to receive power from an external source and transmit data, such as but not limited to recorded neural data and/or other biological data, to outside the body. In many cases, the data is transmitted to the device that delivers power to the implant. For example, the power and data transmission system can be implemented with a pair of transceivers. The implant transceiver can receive power wirelessly though an external transceiver while simultaneously transmitting data to the external transceiver. In several embodiments, both forward (power) and reverse (data) links use the same pair of inductive coils in the transceivers, one coil mounted in the implant and the other in the external unit.

Load-induced resonance-shift-keying modulation scheme for simultaneous near-field wireless power and data transmission through a pair of inductive coils

Systems and methods for using near-field inductive coupling between an implanted system and an external transceiver are discloses. In several embodiments, the data link system is based on a free-running oscillator tuned by coupled resonators. The use of an oscillator-based power link can allow for stable power over different inductor distances, or coil distances. In some embodiments, the data link system includes receivers on both sides of the link, where each receiver is composed of a detector, such as but not limited to an analog front-end ('AFE'), and a clock and data recovery ('CDR') loop.

Systems and methods for low-power near-field-communication

Wireless power transfer systems in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. In one embodiment, a wireless power transfer system includes a power transmitter driven by an oscillator, a power receiver including a resistive load, and a coupled resonator link configured to deliver power from a transmitter tank circuit to a receiver tank circuit, wherein the free-running oscillator automatically tunes to oscillate at a frequency that does not experience a phase shift due to the impedance of the transmit side of the coupled resonator link, wherein the power transmitter provides regulated voltage across a range of distances between the transmitter tank circuit and the receiver tank circuit, and wherein the power transmitter regulates voltage across a range of resistive loads of the power receiver.

Monolithic passive component

A folding circuit includes a differential resistance ladder and a plurality of comparators coupled to the differential resistance ladder in a manner which substantially reduces capacitive loading on the differential ladder. In addition, the folding circuit has a minimum number of output resistors to facilitate resistor matching for precision outputs. In another aspect of the invention, the folding circuit has a replica gain matching circuit which includes a replica comparator of predetermined size, which is coupled to a replica differential ladder at a predetermined location so as to replicate the currents drawn by the comparators coupled to the main differential resistance ladder for precise gain matching.
