A device for varying the height of a bed in a fluidized combustion chamber inside a pressurized housing. Bed material is supplied to the chamber from hoppers or returned back to the hoppers from the chamber through a supply line. The supply line connects the chamber and the hoppers. The hoppers have means of increasing or decreasing the pressure. To improve the means of both increasing and decreasing pressure in the known device and of cleaning the gas that enters into contact with the material in the hopper, each hopper contains a hot-gas filter that gas can flow through in two directions and each hopper communicates above the filter with a gas connection that can be maintained at either a higher or a lower pressure than the fluidized combustion chamber.

Product gas produced in a gasifier is cooled in a waste heat system consisting of a radiation part and a convection part connected thereto. The radiation part and the convection part each contain a pressure vessel with an insert provided therein at a distance. These are constructed by pipes welded gas-tightly together. The inserts are arranged removably in the pressure vessel. A free stabilization space is provided within the insert of the radiation part in the region of the gas inlet. Platen heating surfaces are located in flow direction of the product gas. The radiation part is provided separate from the gasifier and is connected thereto by a pipe conduit.

Arrangement for cooling a gas produced in a gasifier

An arrangement for pressure gasification of fine-grain coal in which the exit of a reactor is followed by a waste heat boiler for cooling the generated gas. The waste heat boiler has a radiation section and downstream heat exchanger surfaces. The reactor is provided, furthermore, with cooling cubes which are studded and lined with refractory ramming mix. The radiant type heating surfaces are sized so that the gas temperature at the exit of the radiation section is situated below the ash sintering temperature of the coal being used. On gas sides, the radiation section is followed by a pressure vessel accommodating convection type heating surface banks which are swept by the generated gas. The radiation section may be in the form of two gas passages through which the gas flows successively. These gas passages are formed by the tube walls welded between each other in a gas-type manner.
