A flow control valve assembly with a plunger continuously movable between closed, intermediate, and open positions. The plunger has an uphole side and a downhole side opposite the uphole side, and both uphole and downhole sides are exposed to the same hydrostatic pressure in the well, resulting in a flow control device that can be operated with minimal power consumption and still withstanding high pressure loads.

A kickover tool for placing and extracting a valve in a mandrel having a hydraulic piston, a kickover arm portion mechanically connected to the hydraulic piston, the kickover arm portion being actuated by application of pressure to the piston. Upon full stoke of the piston, pressure is relieved, and measurement of the pressure relief can be used to indicate proper placement in a side pocket mandrel.

A cable is provided including an inner member, an outer member and an intermediate member. The intermediate member may be positioned between the inner member and the outer member and include a number of disconnection sections spaced apart from one another. In some cases, the cable may include two or more inner members. In addition, a method for preparing an end of a cable may be provided, including the steps of removing a portion of an outer member of the cable and applying a tensile force to an intermediate member of the cable comprising a plurality of disconnection sections. The intermediate member of the cable may be sheared at one of the plurality of disconnection sections, thereby exposing a portion of an inner member of the cable.

A kickover tool is for placing and extracting a valve in a mandrel having a tool body extending in a longitudinal direction and having a hydraulic piston chamber therein. A hydraulic piston is located inside the hydraulic piston chamber. A kickover arm portion is mechanically connected to the hydraulic piston, the kickover arm portion comprising a kickover arm having a tool portion. The kickover arm has a non-kicked-over position where the kickover arm is substantially coaxial with the longitudinal direction and a kicked-over position where the kickover arm is substantially non-coaxial with the longitudinal direction. The kickover arm moves to the kicked-over position upon extension of the hydraulic piston.

A system and method for protecting a motor for a submersible pumping system. A variety of motor protectors are provided for application in variable temperature environments and multiple wellbore orientations. The motor protectors may include one or more of a positively pressurized bellows, a relatively balanced pressure bellows free of sliding seals, and a multi-orientable labyrinth. Each of these motor protectors also may have various moisture absorbents, filters, particle shedders and various conventional motor protector components.

A system and method is provided for reducing the wear on a motor protector, particularly when used in an abrasive environment. The motor protector comprises an outer housing having an internal shaft. The motor protector further comprises a head section having an abrasives exclusion mechanism to reduce the amount of abrasive material contacting a specific component or components within the motor protector.
