This patent document details, e.g., claims and systems for watermark decoding from streaming media signals. One claim recites an apparatus comprising: electronic memory for buffering a streaming media signal; one or more electronic processors programmed for: ranking buffered portions of the media signal in terms of their ability to hide steganographic indicia; detecting steganographic indicia from relatively higher-ranked portions of the streaming media signal before attempting to detect from relatively lower-ranked portions; and carrying out an action based at least in part on detection of the steganographic indicia. Of course, other claims and disclosure are provided too.

Watermark decoding from streaming media

The disclosure details methods and systems for watermark encoding and decoding. In one implementation a method is provided to detect steganographic indicia embedded in a streaming media signal. The method includes receiving a streaming media signal; caching selected portions of the streaming media signal; detecting steganographic indicia from cached portions of streaming content; and carrying out an action based at least in part on detection of the steganographic indicia. Additional solutions, methods and implementations are detailed in the disclosure.

Watermark encoding and decoding

Stationery, or other printable media, is encoded with a digital watermark. The watermark is not conspicuous to a human observer of the media, yet conveys plural bits of auxiliary information when optically scanned and digitally processed. The watermark can be formed by ink-jet printing, or otherwise. The encoded information can be used for various purposes, including authenticating the document as an original, linking to associated on-line resources, and distinguishing seemingly-identical versions of the same document (document serialization).

Printing media and methods employing digital watermarking

The disclosure details methods and systems for watermark encoding and decoding in imaging devices, such as printers and scanners, and imaging device interfaces. Watermark encoding and decoding functions are incorporated into printer and scanner image processing pipelines. Watermark encoders and decoders perform watermark encoding and decoding, respectively, on an image as it is being transferred from one stage of a printing or scanning process to another. In particular, streaming mode watermark encoders and decoders operate on sequential portions of the image in a sequential image stream passing from one stage to another. The streaming mode encoder and decoder may be incorporated in a printer or scanner driver in a computer connected to a printer or scanner peripheral or within a printer or scanner device.

Watermark encoding and decoding in imaging devices and imaging device interfaces

A method for characterizing objects within an image is presented. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a representative color of an object is first identified from an image. The contour of this same object is then determined by identifying regions of the image where the identified color changes to another color. Color and contour data from other images of the same object may be obtained using the above described method to compile a ranges of colors and a range contours which represent the object. This color and contour data (known as the &ldquo;object signature&rdquo;) is then associated with a name for this particular object and stored. Once an object signature has been defined for a particular object, a database of images may be searched to identify images which include objects matching the object signature. For example, once an object signature for a mountain is determined, this object signature may be used to search a database for all images which include a mountain.

Method and method for characterizing objects within an image

A method and system are disclosed for storing a file to enable searching, where the file is stored in a set of files, a set of context information is extracted from the file and from the process of storing the file, the context information is stored in a set of associative information, and a reference to the file is stored in the set of associative information.
