A mechanism is disclosed for facilitating the performance of communication services in a communication network. An enhanced proxy server receives and proxies to a voice mail server a message indicative of a call attempt from an originating party to a terminating party. Further, the enhanced proxy server extracts an outgoing voice mail message from a data store and makes the outgoing voice mail message available for the voice mail server to play to the originating party in a session established between the voice mail server and the originating party in response to the signaling message.

Method and system for facilitating voice mail service in a communication network through data-publication by a signaling server

A delivery system, media, and method for communicating content to devices are provided. The delivery system includes a services aggregator and content aggregator for processing requests from the devices. The services aggregator processes the request to identify credentials for the devices that generate the request and to identify providers of content specified in the request. The content aggregator receives the content from the identified providers and formats the content based on limits imposed by the device. Because the devices are configured to allow the services aggregator and content aggregator to perform computational-intensive tasks associated with requesting and transmitting the content, the complexity and cost of the devices are minimized.

A location validation system comprising a communication interface configured to receive an asserted location of a wireless communication device and a processing system configured to determine a trusted location of the wireless communication device, receive the asserted location from the communication interface, compare the asserted location to the trusted location, and generate a notification if the asserted location differs from the trusted location.

The public safety answering point receives a call from a caller and signaling for the call. The signaling indicates a key associated with the call. The public safety answering point transfers dispatch information that identifies the key to the responder device. The responder device receives a context response that includes a context information. The customer information system receives the context request, processes the context request to select the context information from a plurality of context information based on the key, and transfers the context response.

Methods and systems are provided for secure Mobile-IP traffic traversing network address translation (NAT). A virtual-private-network (VPN) tunnel extending between the mobile node and the home agent is established, wherein the home agent comprises a VPN function. Establishing the VPN tunnel comprises (i) the mobile node communicating with the home agent at a public address of the home agent via a private network, a NAT device, and a public network and (ii) the home agent assigning the mobile node a first public address. The mobile node is registered with the home agent. Registering the mobile node comprises (i) the mobile node communicating via the VPN tunnel with the home agent at the public address of the home agent and (ii) establishing the first public address as a home address for the mobile node for, for example, purposes of Mobile-IP communication.

Methods and systems for secure mobile-IP traffic traversing network address translation

A method, apparatus, and system are provided for invoking third-party call control via a cable-television host device. A video signal is received into a cable-television host device, the video signal comprising an identifier associated with a first telephony endpoint. A command is received into the cable-television host device, the command requesting establishment of a communication session between the first telephony endpoint and a second telephony endpoint. A message is transmitted via a packet-switched network from the cable-television host device to a network entity, wherein the message comprises content based at least in part on the identifier, and wherein the message further comprises content for causing the network entity to invoke third-party call control to attempt to establish the communication session between the first telephony endpoint and the second telephony endpoint.

When a mobile node hands off to a new network access server/foreign agent (NAS/FA) and establishes a data link layer connection with the new NAS/FA, the NAS/FA will determine whether the mobile node is registered with a preferred home agent. If not, the NAS/FA will force the mobile node to hand off to the preferred home agent, while maintaining the data link layer connection with the mobile node.

Method and system for forcing mobile IP home agent handoff

An apparatus and media are provided for more effectively utilizing modems in a WiMAX environment. The apparatus connects a computing device to a network-based information system through at least a first WiMAX modem that is located within the apparatus. A second WiMAX modem can be removably coupled to the apparatus so as to connect the first computing device to the network in combination with the first WiMAX modem. In the event the second WiMAX modem is removed, network connectivity provided by the first WiMAX modem is maintained.

The present invention provides systems and methods for notifying mobile devices of the presence of software and/or firmware updates using Mobile-IP extensions. When a mobile device seeks to engage in a Mobile-IP session, it sends a Mobile-IP registration request message. When it receives a reply to the registration request, the reply includes a Mobile-IP extension that indicates whether an update is available for the mobile device. If the extension indicates that an update is available, the mobile device responsively obtains the update.

A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for writing provisioning parameters to a device. In a first aspect, a set of computer-readable media provide a method that includes receiving a request for access onto a communication network from a device. Attributes about the device are retrieved from a first database that details the capabilities of the device. One of the attributes may identify the device a being capable of being provisioned via Open Mobile Alliance protocol, wherein the first database sends a request to a second database to retrieve a tree structure of the device. The tree structure is populated with one or more provisioning parameters, and the populated tree structure is written to the device.

A method, system, and computer-readable medium are provided for maintaining a network session between a network element and a network despite the need to reauthenticate the network element. A computer-implemented method is provided for authenticating a network element to a network. According to this method, an authentication request is transmitted to the network element. In response, the network element provides identifying information for a home agent that previously routed messages to the network element. The identifying information is then used to generate a mobility key. Later, when a network registration request message is received on behalf of the network element, the generated key is used to validate the request.

Session continuity on reauthentication

A communication network comprises a calling device, a call processing system, and a customer information system. The calling device transmits a call request for an emergency call to the call processing system. The call request includes a caller identification that identifies a caller. The call processing system receives the call request, generates and transfers first signaling for the call that includes the caller identification and a key, and generates and transfers second signaling for the call that includes the key. The customer information system has a plurality of context information stored in association with a plurality of caller identifications. The customer information system receives the first signaling for the call, processes the caller identification to determine a context information from the plurality of context information associated with the caller identification, and stores the key in association with the context information.

Providing context information for emergency calls

A system and method are provided for more effectively utilizing modems in a WiMAX environment, so as to improve network connectivity while providing access for both fixed as well as portable computing devices. The apparatus connects one or more computing devices to a network-based information system through at least a first WiMAX modem that is located within the apparatus. A second WiMAX modem can be removably coupled to the apparatus so as to improve network connectivity and operability. In the event, the second WiMAX modem is removed and coupled to a portable computing device, network connectivity provided by the first WiMAX modem is maintained.
