A receiving device re-establishing a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) entity. The receiving device resets a robust header compression (ROHC) context. The receiving device receives packet retransmissions having header compression based on the ROHC. The receiving device performs decompression of the packet retransmissions. The receiving device discards duplicate packets after performing the decompression of the packet retransmissions.

Robust header compression handling during packet data convergence protocol re-establishment

Aspects of the present disclosure provide mechanisms for fast hyper frame number (HFN) resynchronization of Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) Protocol Data Units (PDUs). A wireless communication device (e.g., a PDCP entity at a wireless communication device) can calculate a current PDCP count of a current PDCP PDU of a plurality of PDCP PDUs received from a radio link control (RLC) sublayer based on a PDCP sequence number (SN) of the current PDCP PDU and an HFN of a first missing PDCP PDU after a successfully received PDCP PDU. The PDCP count may be calculated using the HFN of the first missing PDCP PDU in response to a gap between the PDCP count of the first missing PDCP PDU and the actual PDCP count of the current PDCP PDU being greater than a PDCP window size.

Hyper frame number (HFN) resynchronization of packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) protocol data units

A wireless communication device is described. The wireless communication device includes a memory and a processor in electronic communication with the memory. The processor is configured to determine a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) packet count corresponding to a last radio link control (RLC) packet received in-sequence. The processor is also configured to detect a missing PDCP packet based on a comparison of the PDCP packet count and a sequence number of a last PDCP packet received in-sequence.

Layered missing packet detection

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to optimization of packet processing when packets are received out of order in sequence. For example, a user equipment (UE) may determine whether a difference between a sequence number of a first packet and a sequence number of a second packet received subsequent to receiving the first packet exceeds a sequence jump threshold. The UE may disregard the second packet from processing in response to at least determining that the difference is greater than the sequence jump threshold. The UE may receive and process a plurality of packets respectively associated with a plurality of sequence numbers that are greater than the sequence number of the first packet and less than the sequence number of the second packet.

Downlink data stall optimization by addressing an out-of-order packet sequence

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for releasing an RRC connection by a user equipment (UE). A method that may be performed by the UE includes establishing an RRC connection, determining a time duration for a release timer, resetting the release timer, monitoring the RRC connection, and releasing the RRC connection.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for packet buffering. A method that may be performed by a receiving node includes dynamically determining one or more time durations to buffer packets. The one or more time durations can be different than a time duration of a configured timer for buffering the packets. The receiving node may input one or more parameters to a machine learning algorithm and obtain, as output of the machine learning algorithm based on the input one or more parameters, one or more time durations to buffer packets. The receiving node buffers packets for the determined one or more time durations. The receiving node may use machine learning to dynamically determine the one or more time durations to buffer packet. The buffering may be at a radio link control (RLC) reassembling buffer and/or a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) buffer.

Dynamic packet buffering duration

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may communicate on a first set of carriers in a first frequency range (FR) and a second set of carriers in a second FR. The UE may detect a radio link control (RLC) discontinuity on at least one of the first set of carriers or the second set of carriers. The UE may identify one or more FRs, of the first FR and the second FR, in which the RLC discontinuity occurred. The UE may transmit an RLC status report based at least in part on the identified one or more FRs. Numerous other aspects are described.

Carrier aggregation for mixed frequency ranges

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, a control message indicating a resource configuration for uplink and downlink transmissions. The UE may determine an uplink buffer threshold for a modem buffer of the UE based on the resource configuration. The UE may transmit, to the base station, a feedback request message requesting that the base station provide feedback for at least one previously transmitted uplink packet based on a comparison of an amount of previously transmitted uplink data and scheduled uplink data stored in the modem buffer relative to the uplink buffer threshold. The UE may receive, based on transmitting the feedback request message, a feedback response message corresponding to a first previously transmitted uplink packet of the at least one previously transmitted uplink packet.

Systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support mechanisms for identifying hyper frame number (HFN) desynchronization conditions and/or for triggering HFN resynchronization in a wireless communication system. In aspects, an HFN desynchronization condition is identified based on Ethernet frame validation. For example, aspects of the present disclosure provide mechanisms for validating and Ethernet frame. An HFN desynchronization condition is identified or detected when an Ethernet frame is determined to be corrupt based on the Ethernet frame validation in accordance with aspects herein. In some aspects, such as in Ethernet header compression (EHC) protocol implementations, an HFN desynchronization condition may be identified based on a determination that a deciphered context identification (CID) is not a valid CID (e.g., is not a CID in a set of valid CIDs).

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A communication device, such as a user equipment may identify a size capability for a buffer associated with a protocol layer of the UE. The buffer may be a layer two buffer and the protocol layer may be a layer two protocol layer. The UE may transmit, to a base station serving the UE, an indication of the identified size capability for the buffer. In some cases, the UE may transmit the indication of the identified size capability in a UE capability report in radio resource control signaling. The UE may then communicate, with the base station, data that is scheduled based on the transmitted indication.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method includes receiving control signaling that configures the UE with a retransmission request time duration for requesting packet retransmission relative to when a packet in a sequence of packets is determined to be unsuccessfully received, monitoring for one or more transmissions including at least a subset of packets in the sequence of packets, and transmitting, prior to expiration of the retransmission request time duration, a first retransmission request to request retransmission of at least one packet in the sequence of packets based on a first retransmission trigger being satisfied.

Avoiding packet data convergence protocol holes for bearer in dual connectivity mode across multiple radio access technologies

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described to support entering a fast-negative acknowledgement (NACK) mode. A user equipment (UE) may enter a fast-NACK mode and may decrease a value of a respective timer for one or more wireless connections (e.g., may override the timer independently for each connection). The timer may be referred to as a retransmission request time duration. If configured with two or more component carriers (CCs), the UE may determine a value of the timer based on a location of a data hole within the two or more CCs. Based on entering the fast-NACK mode, the UE may override a configured timer for the respective wireless connection with a new, shorter timer. Based on expiration of the new timer, the UE may transmit an RLC NACK to a base station via the corresponding wireless connection.

Techniques for reducing a feedback time for communications over multiple wireless connections

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a method may include simulating a degradation of at least one of a first wireless communication link with a network or a different second wireless communication link with the network based on detecting that a first set of one or more packets, which were received via the first wireless communication link with the network and were added to a packet buffer, and a second set of one or more packets, which were received via the different second wireless communication link with the network and were added to the packet buffer, satisfy a threshold occupancy of the packet buffer. Systems and methods for wireless communication

Wireless communications systems and methods related to buffer/memory management for multi-connectivity in a wireless communication network are provided. A wireless communication device transmits a first portion of a plurality of data packets using a first radio access technology (RAT). The wireless communication device transmits a second portion of the plurality of data packets using a second RAT different from the first RAT. The wireless communication device stores at least some of the plurality of data packets in a memory pending an acknowledgement (ACK) indication associated with at least a first data packet of the plurality of data packets. The wireless communication device determines a transmission configuration for at least the first data packet and a second data packet based on whether a threshold occupancy of the memory is satisfied. Buffer management techniques for enhanced multi-connectivity communications

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a message that indicates a change from an evolved universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) terrestrial radio access (E-UTRA) packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) to a New Radio (NR) PDCP, wherein the message includes an instruction to perform an intra-cell handover; generate one or more security keys based at least in part on receiving the message that includes the instruction to perform the intra-cell handover; and communicate using the one or more security keys after the intra-cell handover is performed.
