Various embodiments include an automobile network device that includes a descriptor sorting engine (DSE). The DSE may include a direct memory access (DMA) controller, a memory organized by channel clusters that each include a plurality of first-in first-out (FIFO) memories, a timer, and a time stamp (TS) sorting logic component. The DMA controller may be configured to pull timestamp-pointer pairs from packet descriptors stored in an unsorted descriptor ring memory, store the timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories, trigger the TS sorting logic component to reorder the timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories so that they are sorted in ascending order, use the sorted timestamp-pointer pairs in the FIFO memories to read the packet descriptors stored in an unsorted descriptor ring memory, and store the packet descriptors in a sorted descriptor ring memory.

A peripheral controller includes a serial engine configured to provide an interface to a serial bus, a multiplexer configured to select between transactions directed to the serial bus and initiated in a plurality of execution environments, and an access control circuit configured to determine when a first transaction to be executed over the serial bus is initiated from a first execution environment, enforce an access policy when the first execution environment is a secured execution environment, determine when a second transaction is initiated from a second execution environment, block the second execution environment and a peripheral device from accessing the serial bus when the first execution environment is accessing the serial bus, and provide the second execution environment and the peripheral device access to the serial bus when the second execution environment is an unsecured execution environment. The access policy may be based on an address of a peripheral device.

Sharing and protecting secured subordinate devices on an unsecured bus

Data may be loaded in a computing device from a non-volatile storage medium using files having a nested structure. An outer file metadata portion may be read from an outer file on the storage medium into RAM. The outer file may include the outer file metadata portion and an outer file data portion. The outer file data portion may then be read from the outer file on the storage medium into the RAM based on the outer file metadata portion. The outer file data portion may be an inner file. The inner file may include an inner file metadata portion and an inner file data portion. Then, the inner file metadata portion may be read from the inner file in the RAM. The inner file data portion may be read from the inner file in the RAM based on the inner file metadata portion.
