A water heater has one or more heating elements and an internal wall that causes an increased rate of heating within a sub-volume within the water heater tank. Water from the sub-volume is directed to the tank outlet.

Electric water heater having internal heat concentrator

A water heater has a tank and at least one heating element. A switch is disposed in an electric circuit between the heating element and a power source so that, if the switch is in a first state, the circuit is in an electrically conductive state and, if the switch is in a second state, the electric circuit is in an electrically non-conductive state. A controller is in operative communication with the switch and is responsive to a key so that actuation of the controller by the key transitions the switch between the first state and the second state.

A water heater has a tank defining an interior volume, a heating element disposed within the interior volume, and a temperature sensor disposed with respect to the heating element so that the temperature sensor detects temperature of an area ambient to the heating element in the interior volume. The heating element is actuated at a predetermined actuation rate and for a cumulative actuation period so that the predetermined actuation rate maintains the heating element below a predetermined maximum temperature in air and so that the actuation period contributes a predetermined amount of energy to the ambient area when the heating element is immersed in water.

Electric water heater having dry fire protection capability

A water heater is provided having an insulated tank having a water inlet and a water outlet, and further defining an interior volume to contain a quantity of water. A primary heating arrangement applies heat energy to the water so as to heat the water. In addition, the primary heating arrangement is configured to maintain the water during standby periods between upper and lower set point temperatures. A supplemental heating arrangement is operative to supply additional heat energy to the water in order to lessen energy usage by the primary heating arrangement during the standby periods. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the supplemental heating arrangement includes at least one photovoltaic panel and a supplemental heating element. Control electronics are operatively interposed between the at least one photovoltaic panel and the supplemental heating element.
