A steering apparatus for a marine craft has a first bracket connectable to the stern of the marine craft. There is a second bracket connectable to the propulsion unit of the marine craft. The second bracket is rotatably connected to the first bracket for relative rotation about an axis of rotation. The propulsion unit can be rotated about the axis of rotation relative to the stern of the craft. The second bracket has a cylindrical bore extending therethrough. A piston is reciprocatingly received within the bore. The piston slidingly engages the bore and has a piston rod connected thereto. The piston rod is operatively connected to the propulsion unit. In an alternative embodiment a cable replaces the piston and is slidably received by a cable tube extending through end fittings in the bore.

A steering apparatus for a marine craft has a first bracket connectable to the stern of the marine craft. There is a second bracket connectable to the propulsion unit of the marine craft. The second bracket is rotatably connected to the first bracket for relative rotation about an axis of rotation. The propulsion unit can be rotated about the axis of rotation relative to the stern of the craft. The second bracket has a cylindrical bore extending therethrough. A piston is reciprocatingly received within the bore. The piston slidingly engages the bore and has a piston rod connected thereto. The piston rod is operatively connected to the propulsion unit.

A propulsion system and method for driving one or more accessories in an outdrive of a boat having an engine coupled to a drive shaft to supply torque thereto are provided. The torque received by the drive shaft is principally used to propel the boat. The propulsion system includes a driven shaft dedicated to drive the one or more accessories, and further includes a gear assembly for passing a portion of the torque received by the drive shaft to the driven shaft so that each of the one or more accessories coupled to the driven shaft receives driving torque therefrom.

Watercraft hydraulic apparatus

An assembly and techniques for facilitating assemblage of a drive unit to a gimbal housing in a boat are provided. The assembly uses a universal joint (U-joint) in the gimbal housing for pivotally engaging the drive unit to the gimbal housing. The U-joint includes an input shaft that receives driving power and an output shaft connectable to the drive unit. The assembly further uses an alignment subassembly configured to support the U-joint in an alignment position while its output shaft is being connected to the drive unit.

A transom seal assembly for sealing an opening in a boat transom is provided. A propulsion system has a part thereof extending through the transom opening and the seal assembly is positioned between the part and the transom opening to provide respective individually secure dual watertight seals relative to the interior of the boat.

An electronic controller is provided for controlling operation of the engine and/or transmission in a marine propulsion system without use of mechanical linkages. A control allows for setting a desired engine speed signal and a signal link allows for electromagnetically transmitting the desired engine speed signal from the control to the controller. A module allows for supplying to the engine, based on a received signal indicative of actual engine speed and the desired engine speed signal, an engine control signal for adjusting engine speed.

Marine propulsion system and method for controlling engine and/or transmission operation

An interactive apparatus for use by a scuba diver to provide for diver control of a specified dive-related parameter. The diver enters into the apparatus a desired parameter value, such as air reserve available at the completion of a dive, and the apparatus, based on the desired parameter and current dive conditions, determines the length of time the diver may remain at the current depth and still safely ascend to the surface. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus also includes audible and visible alarms to alert the diver to the expiration of the determined length of safe dive time.

The first stage regulator of a two-stage underwater breathing apparatus utilizes an imperforate force transfer mechanism to automatically increase the rate at which breathing air is delivered from a high pressure supply to the second stage regulator as the diver descends in the water. The first stage regulator is sealed from the ambient by the imperforate force transfer mechanism which increases the resistance of the regulator to icing and corrosion and prevents particulates entrained in the ambient water from entering the regulator mechanism and interfering with its operation.

Disclosed herein is a stern drive unit comprising an engine including a coolant jacket and an exhaust port, an exhaust gas discharge system including an exhaust gas manifold communicating with the exhaust port, a high-rise elbow communicating with the exhaust gas manifold, and an exhaust pipe communicating with the high-rise elbow and adapted to convey exhaust gas to an overboard discharge, a high-rise elbow and exhaust gas manifold coolant jacket surrounding the exhaust gas manifold and at least partially surrounding the high-rise elbow and communicating with the exhaust pipe for discharge of coolant from the high-rise elbow and exhaust gas manifold coolant jacket and through the exhaust pipe to an overboard discharge, which high-rise elbow and exhaust gas manifold coolant jacket includes a coolant discharge surface over which coolant is discharged from the high-rise elbow and exhaust gas manifold coolant jacket for flow to the exhaust pipe, a coolant conduit communicating between the engine coolant jacket and the high-rise elbow and exhaust gas manifold coolant jacket and including a portion extending at least as high as the discharge surface of the high-rise elbow and exhaust gas manifold coolant jacket and over which coolant flows, and a supply conduit for supplying coolant to the engine coolant jacket in response to engine operation.
