A menstrual, flow-controlling tampon comprising a generally upright insertion tube having upper and lower ends; flow-receiving structure positioned within the tube to be bodily displaced and expelled from the upper end of the tube; the flow-receiving structure having a deployable portion configured to distend from a downward collapsed position to an upwardly deployed condition, to extend into engagement with vaginal walls associated with the cervix, and accommodation to length of vaginal barrel, following its being expelled from the tube; and removal structure associated with the receiving structure to effect withdrawal thereof away from the cervix, whereby upper extent of the deployable portion of the flow-receiving structure gathers to retain flow in the flow-receiving structure during withdrawal.

A flow-controlling tampon, comprising, in combination a generally upright insertion tube having upper and lower ends, and a plunger within said tube and manipulable proximate the tube lower end; flow receiving structure positioned within the tube to be bodily displaced and to protrude from the upper end of the tube in response to the manipulation of the plunger, the flow receiving structure having an upper end portion configured to expand to extend about the cervix in response to upward bodily displacement of the flow receiving structure effected by the plunger; and removal structure associated with the upper end portion of the receiving structure to effect contraction thereof when the receiving structure is withdrawn away from the cervix. The flow receiving structure typically includes flow absorbent material contained within a thin moisture resistant sheath having an expansible upper end that is contracted by pulling on strand structure.

Anti-ulceration bandage

A bandage includes first and second carrier strips, the first strip carrying a liquid absorbent, soft, pad of material which is to be placed over a wound. The second strip carries an adhesive to be placed onto the patient's skin at a location spaced from the wound. The two strips have ends which are connected by a releasable attachment forming a third element such as a tear string which is easily manipulable to free the strips from one another. This enables lifting of the pad and first strip independently of the second strip, so that force applied to the second strip to free it from the skin is not transferable to the first strip and wound.
