A method for covering a roof, the method comprising (i) providing first and second silicone membranes, where the membranes are in the form of rolls; (ii) unrolling the first and second silicone membranes over a roof surface; (iii) positioning first and second membranes adjacent to one another and overlapping and edge of the second over an adjacent edge of the first membrane to thereby form a lap; (iv) securing the first and second membranes to the roof surface; and (v) seaming the first membrane to the second membrane in the lap.

This invention relates to sprayable aqueous silicone emulsions which form silicone elastomers upon the removal of water having improved smoke and fire resistant properties. The aqueous silicone emulsion comprises water, a product of a diorganosiloxane polymer and a crosslinker, a surfactant and a filler selected from the group consisting of aluminum trihydrate, fumed titanium dioxide, magnesium oxide, ceramic fillers and zinc borate. The silicone emulsion has a viscosity of 10,000 to 120,000 mPa s and exhibits pseudo plastic rheology which facilitates its application by spraying. A softening agent may also be added for modulus control.

A method for neutralizing a polyorganosiloxane mixture. The method comprises (A) contacting a mixture comprising a polyorganosiloxane and a base with a neutralizing amount of a solid organic acid at a mixture temperature above the melting temperature of the solid organic acid forming a molten organic acid and forming an insoluble adduct of the base with the molten organic acid, (B) lowering the mixture temperature to effect solidification of residual molten organic acid to residual solid organic acid, and (C) effecting separation of the insoluble adduct and the residual solid organic acid from the polyorganosiloxane mixture. The present invention is especially useful for neutralizing mixtures comprising polyorganosiloxane mixtures where the polyorganosiloxane comprises hydrocarbyl groups bonded to silicon.
