A print element including a heat sink, a printed wiring member mounted on the heat sink, a thermal ink jet assembly mounted to the heat sink, and a manifold assembly mounted to the heat sink. The manifold assembly has a first mount for removably connecting a first source of ink to the manifold assembly and a first outlet to the thermal ink jet assembly. The print element can be combined with a housing to form a print head in a first type of printing device or can be used without the housing in a second different printing device.

Print element and method for assembling a print head

A method and system for a cap gimbal for a maintenance station of an ink jet printer with a first and second printhead each with a nozzle face that ejects ink. The cap gimbaling system allows a movable base which supports the maintenance caps to move in unison with the printheads and effectively seal the nozzle face.

Cap gimbaling mechanism

An ink tank and ink tank support structure which contains structural elements which are designed to permit proper installation of the ink tank in the ink tank support structure while minimizing the chances of improper installation of the ink tank in the ink tank structure. A primary ink tank seal is provided in the ink tank, and a relatively low compressive force seal is provided between the ink tank support structure and the ink tank to reduce leakage of fluid from the tank and limit evaporation of fluid from the tank despite repeated insertions and removals of the ink tank from the ink tank support structure. A variable capacity ink tank and an ink tank with staggered height walls are disclosed, as well as a code reader for determining characteristics of ink tanks.

Ink tank support assembly seal and biasing element

A method and system for a cam-actuated lever capping arm for use in a maintenance station of an ink jet printer, the printer including a bi-directional translatable carriage supporting a print cartridge having a print head with nozzles in a nozzle face for printing ink droplets ejecting from said nozzles onto a recording medium at a printing zone in the printer, the translatable carriage being controlled by drive members under the control of a printer controller, the maintenance station being positioned at one side of the printing zone for translation of a print cartridge thereto on the translatable carriage for capping by the cap carriage, the cap carriage including a movable base for intercepting the translatable carriage when the translatable carriage enters the maintenance station, a pair of movable caps for sealing the nozzles in the printhead nozzle face, and a cam-actuated lever for moving the cap into a position in which the cap seals against the printhead nozzle face.

Ink tank with securing means and seal

An ink jet recording apparatus includes a die reservoir and at least one ink channel in communication with the die reservoir. The method and apparatus contemplate heating ink in the die reservoir to increase vapor pressure of the ink to cause mass transfer of water vapor molecules across an interface between the air bubble and the ink and removing air bubbles entrapped within the die reservoir and the ink channel. An ink jet recording apparatus may also include a heat sink provided to the die reservoir to cool the die reservoir below predetermined threshold temperatures. The heat sink may be fixably attached to either a carriage or maintenance station of the ink jet recording apparatus, or the heat sink may be integrally formed with the die reservoir and the ink channel as part of the replacement cartridge.

Method and apparatus for recovering an ink discharging condition of an ink jet recording apparatus

Fail-safe ink tank latching system

A sheet decurler such as may be used to decurl liquid or solid toned printed or copied sheets. The decurler has an extended multidirectional nip having first and second decurling members for removing multiple curl conditions from a sheet.

Multilevel/duplex image sheet decurling apparatus

A registration transport and transfer module is located in a retractable drawer having a camshaft actuated by a lever. Rotation of the lever turns the cam which cooperates with a mounting to enable the transfer module to be lowered beneath a photoconductive belt. The drawer may then be pulled away from the machine and the transfer module pivoted about a point so as to expose portions of the copy sheet path for jam clearance.

Floating transfer module mounting

An apparatus which compensates for the velocity mismatch between adjacent sheet transports. A plate, interposed between the sheet transports, supports the sheet until the leading edge thereof advances from the first sheet transport to the second sheet transport. When the leading edge of the sheet is received by the second sheet transport, the plate pivots away from the sheet to a location remote therefrom. Since the first sheet transport advances the sheet at a greater velocity than the second sheet transport, the sheet forms a buckle to compensate for the velocity mismatch between sheet transports.
