A permanent color record (18,20,22) of an image provided by a scanner (10) employed in medical diagnostic procedures is formed on a standard sheet (58) of 8.times.10 inch black-and-white film by three separate monochromatic record images (18,20,22) of respectively different ones of three color components of the scanner developed image. The film sheet (58) with its three black-and-white images is viewed on the screen of a viewer (116) having three lenses (120,122,124) positioned to project light of three different colors in converging paths through respective ones (222a,222b,222c) of the monochromatic record images and to project three image components in mutual superposition on the viewer screen. The three different color image components on the viewer screen are precisely positioned so that there is no visibly discernible misregistration. Either the three image components on the color record are formed on the sheet film (58) with a predetermined maximum misregistration or the viewing system is adjusted to accomplish such maximum misregistration on the viewer screen. A hard disc memory (430) is used to acquire and electrically store a plurality of color or black-and-white images made in any sequence before selectively extracting all black-and-white or all color images for optical recording.

Method and apparatus for using monochrome images to form a color image

A permanent color record of an image provided by a scanner employed in medical diagnostic procedures is formed on a standard sheet of 8.times.10 inch black-and-white film by three separate monochromatic record images of respectively different ones of three color components of the scanner developed image. The film sheet with its three black-and-white images is viewed on the screen of a viewer having three lenses positioned to project light of three different colors in converging paths through respective ones of the monochromatic record images and to project three image components in mutual superposition on the viewer screen. The three different color image components on the viewer screen are precisely positioned so that there is no visibly discernible misregistration. Either the three image components on the color record are formed on the sheet film with a predetermined maximum misregistration or the viewing system is adjusted to accomplish such maximum misregistration on the viewer screen.

The present invention is principally directed to an apparatus for unsheathing, resheathing and handling needles. The preferred embodiment includes an elongated housing having an opening at one end that communicates with an internal chamber. Sheath retaining members are disposed substantially adjacent to the opening and can be employed for selective retaining engagement of a sheath that is inserted into the opening. The sheath retaining members may include a deflectable spring member. A gripping portion may be provided in connection with the housing. Appropriate use of the apparatus obviates the need for manual grasping of a needle sheath and provides additional advantages.

A liquid temperature controlling method and apparatus are provided in which on/off valves are utilized. The on/off valves are housed in a compact manifold assembly having a number of channels through which hot and cold water flows to and from the valves. Each of the valves communicates with an orifice, with each orifice communicating with the hot water valves being of a different size to produce binary flow patterns of water exiting the hot water associated orifices and valves. Similarly, each of the orifices communicating with a cold water valve is of a different size so that the flow rate of water from each cold water associated orifice is related in a binary manner to the flow rates through the other cold water associated orifices and valves. Because of the greater viscosity of the hot water, it is preferable that the hot water associated orifices be of a smaller size than corresponding cold water orifices. The opening/closing of the valves is controlled using information stored in memory. The programmed information correlates valve openings with information relating to water temperature. When there is a difference between actual and desired temperatures, one or more different combinations of valves can be opened in a predetermined manner without cycling through all possible valve combinations defined between the current combination of valve openings and the next combination of valve openings whereby the difference between the actual and desired temperatures is rapidly reduced.
