The low-tip stripper fingers are adjustable both in the cross process and in attack angle with respect to the photoreceptor in order to change the height at which the tip of each stripper finger is in relation to the photoreceptor and thereby prevent jams due to miss-strips. Printing devices include a printing engine and a media tray connected to a frame. The media tray is adapted to hold a stack of media supplied to the printing engine for printing. A magnetic trailing edge guide that is shaped to contact a corner of the stack of media is connected to a tether that is connected to the frame. A storage device is connected to the frame, and the storage device is shaped to accommodate the magnetic trailing edge guide. The length of the tether allows the magnetic trailing edge guide to reach the corner of the stack of media and to reach the storage device. The magnetic trailing edge guide includes a magnetic element adapted to magnetically hold to at least the media tray and the storage device.

A sheet jam access assembly in combination with a finisher transport assembly having a main transport cover, is used with a digital printer. First and second axles with idler nip rollers are mounted on the transport assembly for movement away from the process path. First and second drive nip rollers are mounted for driven rotation on the transport assembly. A jam access cover pivots on the main transport cover from a closed to an open position. First and second hinges each have a first outer leaf on the jam access cover connected by a hinge pin to an inner leaf which translates transverse to the process direction. The hinge axis is spaced apart from the cover axis. A cam plate base portion translates parallel to the process direction. First and second ramps adjacent the axles extend away from the base portion at an angle to the process direction. A slot extends through the first inner leaf at an angle to the process direction. A transfer pin attached to the base portion engages the slot to move the cam plate ramps, which engage the axles to raise the nip rollers and release the jammed sheet. A leaf spring detent holds the jam access cover open.

A printer extracts a media sheet from a plurality of media sheets in a media supply and moves the media sheet along a media path. A plurality of sensors on the media path generate signals as the media sheet moves past the sensors, and the printer identifies a cross-process direction dimension of the media sheet with references to signals generated by the sensors. The printer identifies the dimension of the print medium without requiring media size sensors in the media supply.

A method and apparatus for high capacity stacking and stitching in an image production device is disclosed. The method may include determining if an image production document is to be stitched, wherein if it is determined that the image production document is to be stitched, sending the image production document along a first paper path to a first stacking tray to be stitched and stacked, and if it is determined that the image production document is not to be stitched, determining if the image production document requires a higher quality registration stacking than the stacking provided at the first stacking tray, wherein if it is determined that the image production document requires a higher quality registration stacking than the stacking provided at the first stacking tray, sending the image production document along a second paper path to a second stacking tray to be stacked in a high quality registration manner, and if the image production document is determined not to require a higher quality registration stacking than the stacking provided at the first stacking tray, sending the image production document along one of the first paper path to the first stacking tray to be stacked and the second paper path to the second stacking tray to be stacked.

Method and apparatus for high capacity stacking and stitching in an image production device

A quad roll sheet curl control apparatus uses elastomer first and second rolls forming first and second nips with third and fourth rolls. The first and second rolls have compressible surfaces, while the third and fourth roll surfaces are formed of a substantially uncompressible material. A pivotable gate member in operating relationship with the first and second nips directs sheets to either the first or the second nip whereby the desired decurling orientation is achieved for the sheet by either the elastomer first roll or the elastomer second roll. Switching nips and curl to be induced does not require drive reversal as previous decurler arrangements do. The degree of decurling can be adjusted with at least one cam in communication with at least one of the first and second rolls.

The member is securable along a portion of the member to a secondary member and is functionally operational such that one end of the member is movable from a first position out of contact with a media path into a second position in contact with the media path.

A tri-roll sheet curl control apparatus is described which includes an elastomer first roll forming a first nip with a second roll, the first roll having a compressible surface. The apparatus includes an elastomer third roll having a compressible surface which forms a second nip with the second roll surface. The apparatus further includes a pivotable gate member that is in operating relationship with the first, second and third rolls so as to direct a sheet to either the first or the second nip so that the desired decurling orientation is achieved for the sheet by either the elastomer first roll or the elastomer third roll.

A stalled sheet folding and flattening apparatus for reducing a sheet, stalled between a withdrawable and a fixed component of a cut sheet handling system of a sheet handling machine, into a shape and size suitably enabling reliable removal of the stalled sheet through even a relatively narrow gap between the withdrawable and fixed components of the sheet handling system. The stalled sheet folding and flattening apparatus includes a fixed component of the sheet handling system connected to a frame of the machine and having a first section of a sheet path; a withdrawable component of the sheet handling system mounted to the frame, and having a sheet flattening side defining a relatively narrow gap between a fixed surface within the machine and the withdrawable component, and including a second section of the sheet path adjoining the first section of the sheet path; and a sheet folding device mounted to the fixed component. The sheet folding device includes a generally U-shaped portion defining a slot and having a sheet contact surface forming a part, of an edge of the first section of the sheet path, for contacting and deflecting into a first fold, an edge of a sheet stalled across an interface between the first and the second sections of the sheet path, when the withdrawable component is being pulled out of the machine. The sheet contact surface of the U-shaped portion has a first radius of curvature defining a first concave surface for deflecting and folding the stalled sheet, and a second radius of curvature defining a second surface for guiding the folded sheet out of the slot.

In a sheet handling machine having a frame, and a cut sheet handling system including a sheet path, a stalled sheet pulling and crushing apparatus for reducing a sheet, stalled across an interface between a withdrawable and a fixed component of a cut sheet handling system into a shape and size suitably enabling reliable removal of the stalled sheet through a relatively narrow gap between the withdrawable and fixed components of the sheet handling system. The stalled sheet pulling and crushing apparatus includes a fixed component of the sheet handling system connected to a frame of the machine and having a first sheet gripping nip forming a first section of a sheet path; a withdrawable component of the sheet handling system mounted movably to the frame, and having a sheet flattening side defining a relatively narrow gap between a fixed surface within the machine and the withdrawable component, the withdrawable component including a second sheet gripping nip forming a second section of the sheet path for adjoining the first section of the sheet path; and a movable sheet pulling device comprising a rotatable roller mounted to the fixed surface and projecting partially into the narrow gap for contacting and rotatably applying a sheet pulling force on the stalled sheet in a first direction to pull an end of the stalled sheet out of the first sheet gripping nip, as the withdrawable component is being pulled in a second and different direction relative to the first direction. The rotatable roller as mounted cooperating with the sheet crushing side of the withdrawable component to accordion fold and crush the pulled out stalled sheet without a tear, into a shape and size suitably enabling reliable removal of the stalled sheet through the narrow gap.
