A marine mooring line vermin shield to prevent the passage of vermin crawling along a marine mooring line from land to a pleasure craft, including a disc with a centrally located aperture through the disc, and a slot extending from the aperture to a periphery of the disc. The vermin shield also includes a closure that is urged to insert into the disc slot in a closed state compressing the mooring line against the aperture to secure the vermin shield against the mooring line. The closure may also be locked in the closed state. The closure can also be extracted from the disc slot in an open state to allow the mooring line to be removed from the aperture through the slot past the disc periphery.

An apparatus and method for a receiver cover to partially envelope a receiver, wherein the receiver has a non-symmetrical outer edge portion. The receiver cover includes a flexible panel having a peripheral margin portion with the peripheral margin portion being adjacent to the receiver non-symmetrical outer edge portion. The receiver cover also including structure for removably engaging the panel to the non-symmetrical outer edge portion of the receiver.

Marine Mooring Line Vermin Shield

A method and system for use in a central office (CO) having network elements for communicating information between a central office technician (COT) stationed within the CO and network element monitoring personnel or monitoring center stationed remote from the CO. A local area network (LAN) having a hub stationed remote from the CO and a fiber communication line connected to the hub is provided. The fiber communication line has one end extending to the hub and the other end extending within the central office. The hub is operable for communicating with network element monitoring personnel stationed remote from the CO. A node transceiver is coupled to the other end of the fiber communication line within the central office. A wireless transceiver is operable with the node transceiver for providing a communication link between a COT stationed within the CO and the network element monitoring personnel stationed remote from the CO via the local area network. An Internet protocol communication link connects the hub of the local area network with the network element monitoring personnel. An alarm circuit connects the network element monitoring personnel with the network elements. The network element monitoring personnel monitor the status of the network elements using the alarm circuit.

A communications networking system is disclosed for controlling and monitoring devices within a telephony central office. The networking system includes a high bandwidth local area network (LAN) within the central office for transferring substantially all communications between each central office network element and remote telephony operational support systems (OSSs) that control and monitor network element performance. The LAN simplifies communications within the central office: (a) by substantially eliminating direct connections, between central office network elements and remote OSSs, and (b) by utilizing at least one standardized communication protocol such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, or OSI when transferring communications over the LAN. The networking system includes a mediation device(s) for translating between network element specific protocols and a standardized protocol used on the LAN. The networking system further includes redundant routers, each acting as an interface between a wide area network (WAN) connecting to the central office and the central office local area network, wherein the WAN provides substantially all of the communications between the central office and the OSSs. One of the routers is used in securing the central office against undesirable access by agents dialing into the central office via the public telephone lines. This router obtains an ID and password from a dial-in agent, and communicates with a remote security center to determine what central office process interfaces the agent may access. The router also prohibits dial-in users from accessing the WAN and thereby accessing other telephony service control sites.

Networked telephony central offices

An addressing scheme is disclosed for a network wherein addresses of the scheme not only uniquely identify addressable process interfaces or nodes communicating with the network, but also each such address encodes information related to a communication channel utilized by the node to which the address is assigned in communicating with the network. Thus for each node communicating on a wide area network wherein the node resides on a local area network at a location having one or more local area networks, the address assigned to the node encodes information related to the node's location, the local area network through which the node communicates. Further, if the node communicates with the local area network through an intermediary device, then the address may also encode information related to communication channel characteristics between the node and the intermediary device. The addressing scheme is particularly applicable to internet protocol addressed networks.
