Methods and systems for facilitating assessment of blood flow in a tissue volume of a subject are disclosed. In some variations, the method may include: after a predetermined amount of a fluorescence agent has been administered to the subject, exciting the fluorescence agent in the tissue volume such that the excited fluorescence agent emits fluorescent light, acquiring fluorescence data based on the fluorescent light emitted during blood flow through the tissue volume, estimating a molar concentration of the fluorescence agent in the blood flowing through the tissue volume, and generating an assessment of blood flow in the tissue volume based at least in part on the fluorescence data and the estimated molar concentration of the fluorescence agent. The estimated molar concentration may be based on the predetermined amount of the fluorescence agent and an estimated circulating blood volume of the subject.

Facilitating assessment of blood flow and tissue perfusion using fluorescence-mediated photoplethysmography

A method of visualizing tissue of a subject includes receiving a fluorescence image of the tissue of the subject, wherein the fluorescence image comprises a plurality of intensity values, a first portion of the intensity values are associated with a first fluorescence emission that is from fluorescence agent that is preferentially accumulated or activated in a target region in the tissue and a second portion of the intensity values are associated with a second fluorescence emission that is from fluorescence agent that is not located within the target region in the tissue; generating an enhanced fluorescence image by reducing one or more of the intensity values that are below a threshold intensity value to increase contrast between the target region in the tissue and areas that are associated with the fluorescence agent that is not located within the target region in the tissue; and displaying the enhanced fluorescence image.

Contrast enhancement for medical imaging

A method for visualizing tissue of a subject during a medical procedure includes receiving, during the medical procedure, a first imaging modality frame generated by imaging a region of the tissue of the subject according to a first imaging modality and a second imaging modality frame generated by imaging a region of tissue of the subject according to a second imaging modality; determining whether an attribute of the second imaging modality frame is below a threshold; and in accordance with determining that the attribute of the second imaging modality frame is below the threshold: generating an artificial second imaging modality frame using a machine learning model and the first imaging modality frame, and displaying, during the medical procedure, the first imaging modality frame in combination with the artificial second imaging modality frame.

Systems and methods for persistent ureter visualization

A method, an apparatus, and a kit including the apparatus and a fluorescence agent are provided for measuring a time-varying change in an amount of blood in a tissue volume, and include exciting a fluorescence agent in the blood, acquiring a time-varying light intensity signal during a pulsatile flow of the blood through the tissue volume, the pulsatile flow having a systolic and a diastolic phase resembling a conventional photoplethysmogram, and processing the acquired signal by applying a modified Beer-Lambert law to obtain a measurement of the time-varying change in the amount of blood in the tissue volume. The instantaneous molar concentration of the fluorescence agent is determined by utilizing a concentration-mediated change in a fluorescence emission spectrum of the fluorescence agent. There is further provided a fluorescence agent for use in the method.

Quantification of absolute blood flow in tissue using fluorescence-mediated photoplethysmography

A method and an apparatus for measuring a time-varying change in an amount of blood in a tissue include exciting a fluorescence agent in the blood, acquiring a time-varying light intensity signal during a pulsatile flow of the blood through the tissue volume, the pulsatile flow having a systolic and a diastolic phase resembling a conventional photoplethysmogram, and processing the acquired signal by applying a modified Beer-Lambert law to obtain the measurement of the time-varying change in the amount of blood in the tissue volume. The instantaneous molar concentration of the fluorescence agent is determined by utilizing a concentration-mediated change in a fluorescence emission spectrum of the fluorescence agent.

Quantification of absolute blood flow in tissue using fluorescence mediated photoplethysmography

A device for providing reference information in laser speckle medical imaging of tissue of a subject can include a support that includes a marker for image recognition and a speckle target region that is nontransparent to light in a first illumination wavelength range and that generates a speckle pattern when illuminated with light in the first wavelength range. The support can be configured to be attachable to tissue of the subject.

Devices and methods for speckle motion artifact detection and compensation in medical imaging

A method for visualizing tissue of a subject includes receiving a first series of first imaging modality frames generated by imaging a region of tissue of the subject, and a first series of second imaging modality frames generated by imaging the region of tissue; displaying the first series of first imaging modality frames in combination with the first series of second imaging modality frames; storing a plurality of first imaging modality frames and a plurality of second imaging modality frames of the first series of second imaging modality frames in a memory; receiving a second series of first imaging modality frames generated by imaging the region of tissue; and displaying the second series of first imaging modality frames in combination with one or more of the second imaging modality frames of the first series of second imaging modality frames stored in the memory for visualizing the region of tissue.

Methods and systems for imaging tissue of a subject are disclosed, and involve illuminating the tissue with a coherent light having a coherent wavelength, acquiring image data of the tissue using a color image sensor, and processing the image data using laser speckle contrast analysis while correcting for differences in sensitivity of color pixels at the coherent wavelength to generate a perfusion image of the tissue. The perfusion image is then displayed to the user. Also disclosed are methods and systems for correcting for ambient light and for acquiring white light images along with laser speckle images.

Methods and systems for laser speckle imaging of tissue using a color image sensor

An imaging system for acquisition of NIR and full-color images includes a light source providing visible light and NIR light to an area under observation, such as living tissue, a camera having one or more image sensors configured to separately detect blue reflectance light, green reflectance light, and combined red reflectance light/detected NIR light returned from the area under observation. A controller in signal communication with the light source and the camera is configured to control the light source to continuously illuminate area under observation with temporally continuous blue/green illumination light and with red illumination light and NIR excitation light. At least one of the red illumination light and NIR excitation light are switched on and off periodically in synchronism with the acquisition of red and NIR light images in the camera.
