A sensor tester for testing multiple vehicle sensors is provided comprising: a circuit for testing a vehicle piezoelectric knock sensor; a circuit for testing a vehicle speed sensor; and a circuit for testing ignition coils. The circuit for testing piezoelectric knock sensors comprises: an integrated circuit electrically connectable to a power source, the integrated circuit having a multiple step voltage divider, a connector for connecting the integrated circuit to the knock sensor; and a plurality of light emitting diodes electrically connected to the voltage divider of the integrated circuit. The circuit for testing vehicle speed sensors comprises: a voltage divider for limiting the voltage of a power source to a reference voltage; a voltage comparator having a first input, a second input and an output, the first input electrically connected to the voltage divider, the second input electrically connected to the speed sensor; and a voltage transition detector for detecting a voltage transition from the output of the voltage comparator. The circuit for testing ignition coils that have a primary coil and a secondary coil comprises: capacitance means electrically connectable in a loop with a power source and the primary coil; a first voltage indicator electrically connected in series with a side of the secondary winding and electrically connectable to the power source; a second voltage indicator for detecting a voltage across the capacitance means; a current interrupter electrically connected in parallel with the capacitance means; a first connector for connecting the power source in series with the primary coil; and a second connector for connecting the power source in series with the secondary coil.

Master automotive sensor tester

A harness for testing a throttle position sensor having wires operatively connected therein terminating in a connector. The harness comprises a card and a first cable of multiple wires hard-wired to the card at one end and terminating in a connector at the other. The connector of the first cable is removably connectable to the throttle position sensor connector. The card further comprises a second cable of multiple wires hard-wired to the card at one end and operably attached to a connector at another end. The connector of the second cable is a mate for the connector of the first cable. At least two terminals are mounted on the card and connected between the wires of the first and second cables for connecting the card to a digital volt/ohm meter. A light is mounted on the card and connected between wires of the first and second cables to determine and visually indicate the continuity of the throttle position sensor wires. In another preferred embodiment, the first cable comprises a plurality of other ends. Each of the other ends of the first cable terminates in a different connector, wherein each of the different connectors of the first cable is removably connectable to a different throttle position sensor connector. The second cable also comprises a plurality of other ends. Each of the other ends of the second cable terminates in and is attached to a different connector, each being a mate for the connectors of the first cable.

Method and apparatus for throttle position sensor testing

The invention includes an ignition control assembly including a first ignition control module adapted to be connected to the distributor and to control electrical operation of the distributor, and a redundant ignition control module including circuit means adapted to be connected to the distributor to control electrical operation of the distributor. The control modules are mounted in a location remote from the distributor. The mounting includes a heat sink for maintaining the control modules at relatively low temperatures. A switch and circuitry are also provided for alternatively providing an electrical connection between the first control module and the distributor and between the redundant control module and the distributor.

Means for mounting ignition control modules

An electrically conductive terminal adapted to be fixedly connected to the free end of a wire such as a spark plug wire. The terminal includes one end constructed to releasably clampingly engage a conductor such as a spark plug and an opposite end comprising a body adapted to house the free end of the spark plug wire. A stake member is provided for securing the other end of the terminal member to the spark plug wire and also for providing an electrical conductor between the core and the terminal. The stake member extends through a hole provided in the terminal and through the spark plug wire.
